V. Shanmuganathan: Was he a victim, scapegoat sacrificed for wrong calculations ? (3)

Anti-BJP groups not properly identified, negotiated and satisfied: TUR leader Angela Rngad said while adding, “We want to show that the BJP’s anti people policies will not be tolerated.” Stating that the protest is also to show all that the BJP’s hate campaigns will not be accepted in the state, she alleged that the party, through the Ghar Wapsi and policies of grabbing of farmers’ lands, the make in India campaign are all efforts to enslave every citizens of country. Referring to the ban on beef and atrocities against the minority, Rngad accused the BJP of being a party that actually attacks the rights of people like attacking the lifestyle, food culture and habits and way of dressing. KNU general secretary S Diengdoh said that this indifferent attitude of the BJP against the minorities including Christians is totally undemocratic while adding that it is against the Constitution of India. HNPF president R Rani questioned why these issues have cropped up only after the BJP was voted to power. Here only, that the BJP had not properly understood the groups was revealed, to cite an example based on the media reports. He said, “We suspect that this is being instigated and we demand that the BJP central leadership respects all religious communities.” It is a futile exercise to have any negotiation with these separatist groups, as they have been carrying out their activities since independence supported by the US, Chinese and Pakistani forces with all facilities, where the BJP is not a match for them.

Shanmuganathan’s experiments with Christianity, Christians and Christmas (2015-16): His sudden praising of Christianity, Christians, their services were quite amusing, as he hid not have any experience in “inter religious dialogue”. Some of the Tamilnadu ideologists had gone there enjoying time, but, obviously misled them with their half-baked ideas and imagined details. Whenever, he visited Tamilnadu and Chennai, a coterie never allowed other friends known to him to approach him. This was openly revealed during the facilitation programme organized and Chennai. Because of his dual role here and there, he was rather confused with the inputs stuffed by the fellow-ideologists. The Church was so delighted to record that[1], “The Christmas celebration this year has got more meaningful since the head of the state the governor of Meghalaya Mr  V. Shanmuganathan himself attended  in the Christmas service  at Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Church, Shillong on 25th December, 2016”.  Of course, he had been so considerate with the Christians since 2015.  He hosted Christmas at Rajbhawan with all fanfare. He gave discourse from biblical narratives, just like a pastor / priest from the pulpit. One website[2] characteristically as “Meghalaya Governor, V. Shanmuganathan while sharing inspirational stories said that churches have shown compassion and dedication towards the service of mankind”. The Presbyterian Church was so happy, as he participated the services with Bible in his hands[3]. Whether, he was experimenting with the different denominations, or dialoging in theology or otherwise, only God knows, as some of the websites started disappearing[4].

Inaugurated and praised Mother Teresa (September 2016): Meghalaya hosted a 4-day film festival titled ‘Mother Teresa International Film Festival (MTIFF)’ based on the life and teachings of noble laureate – Mother Teresa from September 6 to 9, 2016 in Shillong[5]. Addressing the inaugural function, the Governor stated that Mother Teresa represents the message of love, peace, enduring strength, hope and service to the world at large[6]. Underlining that understanding the pain of others is no easy a task, the Governor stated that Mother Teresa understood the pain of acute poverty. “She served the destitute, lepers, abandoned children, old people, the poorest of the poor and the downtrodden. Because she understood their pain, she was a solace, a helping hand and a source of comfort to them” he further stated. Showing his admiration for Mother Teresa for identifying herself with her love for the Almighty, he said that in a world where people identify themselves by the power they hold, or the money they possess, what truly marks Mother Teresa’s greatness is her identification of herself with her love of God. Applauding the great works and selfless services of Mother Theresa’s followers he further stated that their work must extend to all places. In August, when there was a photo of Teresa was there in the Spiritual Fair pur up by ASI, a huge cry was made and it was removed. However, they might not be knowing abut this!

Opposition to ADSPA, Left mobilization and BJP governor in isolation: In a recent Order of the High Court of Meghalaya[7] dated 2.11.2015 passed in Writ Petition (C) No. 127 of 2015, the High Court of Meghalaya has made a suo motu suggestion to the Central Government for the imposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, in the Garo Hills area of Meghalaya[8]. “It is shocking and deeply disturbing that a draconian law like the AFSPA is being sought to be imposed through a judicial order. There have been protests against this order in the Garo Hills area and in Shillong. What follows is a statement which carries objections to this order endorsed by more than 60 concerned citizens, from various parts of India – some whom are well respected and accomplished individuals in their fields, like law, academia, journalism, films, bureaucracy and activism[9]. As usual in letter supporting the radicals signed by the eminent, elite and secularists appeared in the media. Thus, when Shanmuganathan came, it was not known as to whether he was understanding the problems and issues involved there in and around Meghalaya.

vshanmuganathan-inuaugurating-teresa-film-festival

Tribal youth festivals etc., have been a trap for him?: Of late, he was moving with different tribal groups and participating in their festivals. He participated the Wangala festival. Wangala is the festival of the Achiks (Garos), the post harvest festival where the harvest reaped is celebrated with thanks giving to the Gods ‘Misi Saljong’ and ‘Mima Kiri Rokkime’, the Gods of the fields and the paddy[10]. For the Achiks (Garos) the agrarian activities is not only physical labour but a spiritual journey as well which culminates in joy at the Wangala Festival.  Thus, with joy in their hearts and sprint in their feet, they perform the Wangala Dance which is actually a synchronized movement of symbolic nature which co – ordinates with the drum beats. The Wangala dance is therefore a story of the Garos in rhythm. The word ‘wanna’ refers to dance and merry making and ‘gala’ refers to offering in thanksgiving. Thus, the word ‘Wangala’ means the dance of ‘Thanksgiving’[11]. Thus, he went on attending many tribal festivals[12]. He compared Wangala with Pongal. In any case, he could have restricted his program-attending agenda carefully. At every level, the intriguing point is who was the PA or advisor to him, when he was discharging his official duties. Definitely, that person must have been known to him or RSS person. Then, he must have gone into all details in the context of Meghalaya and NE complexities.

Was he a victim, scapegoat sacrificed for wrong calculations?: He has been a genuine worker without any selfishness. As already mentioned with his hard-work he has come up. Now, the media comes out with stories that “Shanmuganathan belongs to Saiva Pillamar community (a forward community)” and thus had / have difference with Brahmin-friends and so on[13]. This is mischievous, as RSSwalas never talked in terms of caste, in any context. Thus, the “Shanmuganathan-Ganesan” variance as raised by “The Wire”can be ignored in the context[14]. Then come the remarks of RSS media incharge – Sadagopan. “But the state unit of the RSS has a different take on this issue”, as noted by the Wire, picking from “The Hindu”, at least judging by their initial reaction to Shanmuganathan’s resignation[15]. “It is an unfortunate incident… A person occupying a high position should be doubly careful to avoid such allegations, as he represents an organisation such as the RSS and the BJP,” said N. Sadagopan, the sangh’s state media coordinator, in an interview to The Hindu[16]. His response has been in fact, unfortunate, intriguing, shocking and irresponsible too, as how he could have come out with such words. Instead of analyzing the issue, one should not try to show off himself indulging in such remarks. As explained above, the different complexities, intricacies and complications involved, Shanmuganathan has done excellent work, in spite of his health. He had an open heart surgery and in soite of such condition, he was performing his duties relentlessly. He has lamented many times that though he had many friends in Chennai, none visited him when he was admitted in the hospital for open-heart surgery. In fact, he pained that nonde came to sign the forms for the conduct of the operation. Of course, it went on well. In fact, he Unfortunately, as pointed out elsewhere, the Tamil and Tamilnadu friends have not analyzed the NE complex issues, Meghalya tribal politics, Congress-anti-national nexus acting against him and informed him. Perhaps, they have not been trained to understand, though, they have been making trips to NE under different banners like ABVP, Vidhya Bharati and so on. Therefore, the Sangh Parivar should assess, reassess and re-examine the involved complicated issues and political gameplans and respond accordingly. They should be trained in the NE affairs with national and international agendas, as they have many ramifications. As for as Shanmuganathan is concerned, his good deeds would liberate from his temporary problem. May God shower his blessings!

The complaint letter sent to the President of India: The five-page letter signed by 98 workers / nearly 100 employees of the Governor’s House in Shillong[1] – widely circulated on social media –  on Wednesday (25-01-2017)[2], lists a series of misdemeanours including sexual misconduct and “torture and humiliation” of officers and staff[3]. “From the time he has taken over, employees are going through severe humiliation, mental stress and torture,” the employees write. The 67-year-old was accused of hiring or posting only women in his staff and turning the Raj Bhavan into a place where “young ladies come and go at will with direct orders from the governor.” The letter said[4]: “His activities hurt the decorum and prestige of the Raj Bhavan as well as the sentiments of the Raj Bhavan employees who are very much attached to the Raj Bhavan, it becomes our concern. From the time he has taken over, the employees are going through severe humiliation, mental stress and torture.”  The 11 point-letter stated[5] the Governor has “appointed two public relations officers, a cook and a nurse on night duty, all of whom are women”. The staff alleged that the Governor “selected only girls” to work for him and shifted the male official private secretary to his secretariat[6].

shanmuganathan-megalya-governor-resigned-amit-shah-sealed-his-fateCircumstances forced him to resign on the Republic Day: The Governor has also been accused in recent media reports of sexually harassing a woman who had gone to him for the post of Public Relations Officer. Mr Shanmughanathan was appointed Governor of Meghalaya in 2015 by the central government. He is expected to fly to Delhi 27-01-2017. “Till now there are no statements from any women. Facts should be looked into before commenting,” Nalin Kohli, spokesperson of the ruling BJP, said. Protests by civil society groups erupted on the streets of Shillong yesterday as Republic Day was being celebrated. “The Governor should step down. We want impartial probe into sexual harassment in the governor’s house,” said Tarun Bharatiya, one of the protesters. Three aides of the Meghalaya Raj Bhavan were ssacked on Saturday (28-01-2017), an official said . The three officials — public relation officers Chinmoyee Deka and Emdorini Thangkhiew, and private secretary Saurav Pandey – were appointed during the former governor’s tenure[7]. “They were appointed on contractual basis and their jobs were co-terminus with the governor’s tenure. After his resignation, they were asked to quit,” said HM Sangpliang, the secretary to the governor[8].

v-shanmughanathan-high-land-post-24-01-2017Shanmuganathan has denied the allegations:  As per the media report, the victim alleged that the Governor had a personal interview with her on the night of December 8, 2016 for the post of public relations officer and made “inappropriate advances” after he personally called her to attend the interview[9].  What irked the victim was the alleged ‘unprofessional and unfriendly’ behaviour of the Governor. She was one of the seven candidates selected for the personal interview. When asked if he met the candidates separately or in a group, the Governor admitted that he met some candidates separately as well as in a group[10]. But he denied calling one of the candidates from a personal number and asking her to come after 6pm. “I wanted to meet them (the job aspirants) before finalising the candidates and they all came. Everyone was there for half an hour. I have got great respect for everyone. I have not done anything wrong,” he said.
Shanmuganathan also rebutted the allegations that he made physical overtures or inappropriately complemented the girl. “No it is not right… all these things are not right… we have selected only one person and some people were not selected and because they were not selected they should not say all these things,” the Governor said.
Though the victim has not filed any FIR, when contacted, DGP SB Singh told the media that the matter was referred to the Government and legal opinion is being sought.

vs-encouraging-different-women-grooupsShanmuganathan was encouraging different women groups: Women activists from nine organizations  had sought the State Governor’s intervention to ensure that the KHADC’s Village Administration Bill (VAB) 2015, which is awaiting his assent, is ‘gender-just’ and fulfils the rights of women as guaranteed by the Indian constitution. A delegation of women representatives from the nine organizations met Governor V Shanmuganathan on Tuesday (Jume 24, 2015) and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention on the issue[11]. “We request the Governor to intervene in this matter so as to ensure that the VAB 2015 does not become a law without ensuring that the Khasi-Jaintia women are considered as full members of the existing institutions of local self government at the village level,” the memorandum said. According to the memorandum, the KHAD (Village Administration) Bill 2015, passed by the KHADC both in its intent and drafting, suffers from a lack of clarity regarding the rights of women. The women groups further said that the VAB must ensure real devolution of power to Ki Khun Ki Hajar or the people at the village level besides a transparent and accountable democratic self-government that is structurally and financially independent. “This is unfortunate because both in the past and in the present day, practices in these traditional institutions have been varied and have evolved over time,” the memorandum said adding  “This means that in some areas women attend the dorbar meetings while in others, they are given representation in the executive body.” The women groups also opposed section 2(18), Section 6 and section 8 of the Bill that denies women their rights as full members of the Dorbar and demand that amendments be made before the Bill becomes a law. The Bill is designed without much thought to the governance issues at the village level. It does not clearly lay out the lines of responsibility, institutional structures or for that matter even systems of accountability,” the memorandum said[12]. It is not known as to BJP or the appointed Governor knew the nuances of the demands that were made on the lines of other groups like TUR or RAIOT.

tur-beef-and-bjpVS’s dialogue with the radical groups failed: Shanmuganathan was having dialogue with different radical, extreme and seperatist groups after resuming office on May 12, 2015. Who advised him to do so was not clear, however, some overenthusiatic Sanghparivar ideologists without any proper understanding of Northeast politics, anti-national activities, seperatist forces operating under different banners etc., had urged him to have dialogue with them. The first visit of BJP national president Amit Shah to Shillong on Wednesday (April 22, 2015) was greeted with a mixed bag of the HNLC sponsored 12-hours bandh and a ‘beef party’ with placards mocking him sprinkled with songs, dance and music organized by Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) to protest against what it has termed as the BJP’s ‘hate campaign’[13]. TUR organized the beef party which was held about 10 meters away from BJP’s office in Lachumiere on Wednesday[14]. The Hynniewtrep National People’s Front (HNPF) and Khasi National Union (KNU) members were also seen taking part in the TUR’s public forum[15]. Heavy security was deployed in the vicinity and policemen had a harrowing time stopping those who attempted to take a protest march to the State’s Conventional Hall, where Shah addressed party members[16]. TUR and the other NGO members intended to throw a beef party in front of the Convention Hall to protest against the BJP promotion of a ban on beef and its alleged atrocities on minorities and Christians. “We are here to protest the coming of Amit Shah as he ‘symbolizes’ the BJP.” Why BJP alone is targeted by the radical groups is intriguing, when Congress has been accepted there.

V. Shanmuganathan: What went wrong with him and Sangh Parivar? (1)

anti-vs-campaign-blatantly-evident

Who is Shanmuganathan in Tamil Nadu politics and how did he rise to occupy a gubernatorial post?: The 67-year-old politician, a bachelor, hails from an agricultural family of modest means in Nagore, Nagapattinam district[1]. After graduating with an MA in political science, he became a full time RSS pracharak in 1969.  He rose steadily in the organisation and was the state RSS secretary from 1985 to 1995[2]. It was during his tenure as state secretary that the RSS headquarters in Chennai was razed to the ground on August 8, 1993 in a terrorist bombing that left scores of people killed and injured[3]. Old timers say he vowed on that day to build a new office within a year and came good on his promise. “It was difficult in those days as the BJP was in the opposition in Delhi and fundraising – especially for states like Tamil Nadu – was not at all in the radar of those who were in charge of budgetary allocations” says a senior BJP leader. In 1999, when the BJP-led NDA government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee was in power in Delhi, Shanmuganathan was drafted to the BJP and sent to the capital as additional secretary of the party’s parliamentary office[4]. During his time in the national capital, he struck up a close relationship with Narendra Modi, an RSS export to the BJP who became chief minister of Gujarat in 2001[5]. According to BJP leaders, Modi appreciated the fact that Shanmuganathan used to write positively about the state of affairs in Gujarat, especially after the 2002 riots, openly praise Modi’s ‘achievements’. In May 2015, Modi appointed him governor of Meghalaya.

on-26-january-cswo-and-thma-u-rangli-tur-held-a-demonstration-outside-the-shillong-raj-bhavan-photo-courtesy-angela-rangad-thma-u-rangliEnjoying life Rajbhawan staff blaming the Governor joining hands with the protesters: Shanmuganathan’s name first came in to the limelight when former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam died in Shillong on July 27, 2015 while addressing students at a university. Shanmuganathan claimed he was with him as governor of the state but later it emerged Shanmuganathan was nowhere on the scene when Kalam collapsed and was taken to hospital. “In reality, he was sleeping in his bedroom and [it was] only after the call from the Prime Minister [that he ran] to Bethany Hospital, Shillong, although, he was advised to visit Kalam” earlier, the Economic Times quoted one of his staff members as saying[6].  Actually, the Rajbhawan staff reportedly alleged that he was in the habit of telling lies, in the context of the present controversy[7]. All these prove that the staff, protesters and complainants were expecting an opportunity to hit him below the belt. Here, the media (Economic Times to The Wire) purposely carried the non-issue matter clubbing with the current issue, sensationalizing. “The Quint” had gone to the extreme of dubbing, “RSS Pracharak to Alleged ‘Playboy’: The Fall of Meghalaya Governor” it its caption[8]. Thus, the media attack-campaign can also be noted, that too, at a cheap level.

activists-holding-protests-in-shillong-demanding-resignation-of-v-shanmuganthan-photo-andrew-lyndem-facebookThe background of V. Shanmauganathan and his Governorship: Facing sexual harassment charges, Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmuganathan,  former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ‘pracharak’, who was also in-charge of Arunachal Pradesh, on Thursday night (26-01-2017) resigned after a section of Raj Bhavan employees demanded his removal for “seriously compromising” the dignity of the gubernatorial office. Definitely, this news was suppressed by the groups of all ideologists for obvious reasons, as he has not been of that nature to be involved in controversies. Hailing from Thanjavur, he has been a post-graduate and an M.Phil in Political Science, and received the Madras University’s prestigious Gold Medal from its well-known Vice Chancellor T P Meenakshi Sundarnar.  Started working for RSS, he has been a good friend of lakhs and could remember them by name. He has been soft-spoken and friendly with all. He shifted to Delhi working for the Sangh-parivar organizations and then inducted into BJP “Think-tank”. Because of his hard work, political acumen and strategic ideas, he played a crucial role for BJP and elevated to Governorship in 2015. As BJP was planning to negotiate with the anti-national, seperatist and other groups of North-East, it wanted to maken them to mainstream with the factors of culture, tradition, heritage and civilization. The European, American and Chinese experts, researchers and propagandists have been brainwashed them as “non-Indians”, they had separate identity different from India and so on through literature, propagandist materials and physical ideological harassments. He had to face them under very hostile, demure and confronting conditions with suspicion working in all speeches, actions and interactions.

gov-in-out-meghalaya-controversyCongress versus BJP in Meghalaya: To some extent, the anti-RSS, anti-BJP and such categories also knew why he was posted there. Dr Mukul Sangma of Congress has been CM since April 2010 and the Congress was not happy with his appointment as Governor. Actually, there was proposal that Purno Agitok Sangma might be appointed as Governor, but, he was not done and unfortunately he died on March 4, 2016. Mukul Sangma in May 2014 itself accused NPP candidate and former chief minister P A Sangma of being “an agent of BJP” and contesting Lok Sabha elections to “propagate the message of RSS” adding that[9], “He (P A Sangma) is contesting the elections on an NPP ticket to propagate the message of RSS. Perhaps, a wolf in sheep’s clothing.” As Sangma was with Congress and moved towards BJP when he contested against Pranab Mukherjee, the daggers were drawn already. His strong worded outburst proved that he knew the BJP gameplan targeted against him[10]. In May 2016, Conrad Sangma, son of PA Sangma won the by-elections at the Tura Lok Sabha Constituency defeating Dikkanchi D Shira, wife of Mukul Sangma, the CM[11].  The BJP supported and campaigned for Conrad widening his influence[12]. This infuriated the husband CM, as father was dead, but his son to become a political competitor. It may be noted that in May 2016 only, the plan to target Shanmuganathan was hatched through the recruitment involving women.

full-text-pof-the-100-signed-complaint-letter-addressed-to-pm-headlineMolestation charges against V. Shanmughanathan: As Keshari Nath Tripathi was shifted to West Bengal as Governor, he became Governor in May 2015. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said earlier in the day said that he was waiting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Home Ministry to take a call. Obviously, he did not want to add more heat to the boiling controversy. Nearly 100 Raj Bhavan staff here petitioned President Pranab Mukherjee, the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh seeking their intervention to remove the Governor and restore the “dignity of Raj Bhavan”. Thus, the media has already decided. They alleged that[13] Mr. Shanmuganathan had “seriously compromised the dignity of the Raj Bhavan and made it a ‘young ladies club’. “It has become a place where young ladies come and go at will on direct orders of the Governor… Many of them have direct access to his bedroom.” Thus, media pointing to the “bed room”, though, the woman accused him of only alleged “molestation”. Mr. Shanmuganathan, who took over as the Governor of Meghalaya in May 2015, on Thursday attended a Republic Day celebration in Arunachal Pradesh, whose additional charge he holds since November 2015 last following the removal of Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa.

violence-against-women-bogey-vs-by-turCSWO, TUR and RAIOT – the radical, separatist and anti-national forces acting against him:  He was moving with various organizations and groups in his official capacity as Governor of two important NE states, but, he was definitely not briefed properly about their backgrounds. He was encouraging all to come to him and discuss with him all sorts of issues. The Thma u Rangli Juki also known as TUR has been spearheading some sort of “self-determination” struggle through various issues like wages, human rights, imposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, beef and so on. Women activists had begun a signature campaign here seeking Shanmuganathan’s removal[14]. The campaign, spearheaded by women-led Civil Society Women Organisation (CSWO) and Thma u Rangli Kuki (TUR), was launched following reports of inappropriate behaviour by the Governor Shamuganathan[15]. A woman job aspirant had also accused the Governor of making advances when she was appeared for an interview at the Raj Bhavan[16]. Thus, the dialoguers have turned against him with daggers. It is a crude joke that the Sangh-parivar did not know anything about this or the newly elected MP also did not care for him.

How BJP has gone in the Congress way to bend the law citing Shah Bano and taking ordinance route to Jallikkattu!

anti-modi-caricature

Environment, Animal Husbandry department of Agriculture Ministry, Law and finally Home – ministries engaded to clear the Ordinance (19 / 20-01-2016): The sport, which goes back to the Tamil classical period, was banned following a Supreme Court order in May 2014, but spontaneous protests in Chennai have thrust the issue into limelight and sent Tamil Nadu CM O. Pannerselvam rushing to Delhi to seek an ordinance to overturn the ban[1]. In December, 2016 the court had reserved its judgment on a clutch of petitions that challenged the central government’s notification in January 2016 allowing bulls to be used in JallikattuAs an interim order, a bench led by Justice Misra had on January 13, 2016, stayed the Centre’s notification, due to which the apex court’s original order of 2014 banning Jallikattu is still in force. [2]. How all these processes took place, why the involved kept quite, delayed or played safe and all are debated again and again. Later in the evening of 20-01-2017, the Centre cleared the final legal hurdles in holding Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu over the weekend by approving the state’s draft Ordinance. The draft Ordinance, which will add a state-specific exception in the 1960 Act, passed through four ministries during the day — Environment, Animal Husbandry department of Agriculture Ministry, Law and finally Home — receiving consent from each within hours. Again, it proved the hasty, urgency and injudicious act to settle the issue. In its comments on the draft, the Environment Ministry, which administers the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, is learnt to have taken the view that Jallikattu had to be viewed in its cultural context, and that a decision on banning the sport could not be purely legal in nature. The last nod had to be given by the Ministry of Home.

ops-modi-jallikattuNow, it is clear that the issue is political: The final clearance of the Ordinance by the Home Ministry came just a day after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to find a legal solution to the issue. Panneerselvam postponed his return to Chennai on Thursday (19-01-2017) and stayed put in the capital till Friday (20-01-2017) morning as his government prepared the draft Ordinance and handed it to the Centre. Top Tamil Nadu officials made the rounds of different ministries to hold consultations and decide the final language of the Ordinance that will put bulls on the list of performing animals in the state. A group of MPs from the state, led by Lok Sabha deputy Speaker M. Thambidurai, also met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave to press for the Ordinance. Whether the AIADMK was playing its internal politics or otherwise, the gameplan involved was exposed. With the Centre drawing flak, BJP sought to project that its government was actively engaged in resolving the issue[3].

anti-modi-slohaneering-in-jallikattu-demo-modi-funeral-mock

The anti-Modi placards, sloganeering etc., are inexplicable: It is evident that sizable crowd of the “Jallikkattu” protesters were not students, but members of the radical groups like ma.ka.i.ka and its associated organizations. All the fringe Communist  clusters also joined. The Muslim presence could be noted. Thus, the anti-Modi placards, sloganeering and shoutings appeared intriguing in the context. That too, several placards carried very vulgar, indecent and unparliamentary words and expressions. Why, how and for what purposes, they used, only, they have to explain. But, definitely, such aberration marred their cultural claims made on the civilization, heritage and tradition in the name of Tamil, Tamils and Tamilnadu. The separatist sloganeering also exposed the involvement of fringe elements. Asian Age reported that[4], “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rejection of the state’s demand for a Central ordinance on jallikattu has triggered widespread anger in Tamil Nadu”. Residents geared up for massive protests on Friday (20-01-2017), with all sections of people joining students and youth fighting to save its traditional sport and preserve Tamil culture. Furious jallikattu protesters widened the canvass of the protests to include all issues in which the state’s rights were trampled. One of the students, Senthilnathan, who had gathered at the Marina asked, “If Narendra Modi is so concerned about respecting the Supreme Court, why had he opposed the apex court’s verdict to form the Cauvery Management Board?”.

anti-modi-slohaneering-in-jallikattu-demo-at-marina-whyAnti-national slogans were also raised: Protesting Tamil youth vowed to return the Aadhaar cards as a sign of declaration that they are no more the citizens of India. The protesters also targeted the railways blocking the trains in several parts of the state. Traders associations announced a total shutdown on Friday and cinema theatres would remain closed to express support the agitations. The Marina continued to be the epicentre of agitations for Tamil pride with the gathering of youth reaching about 90,000 for a stretch of about three kilometre on Thursday (19-01-2017) evening. The sound of waves were drowned by slogan shouting and drum beating youth, who supported jallikattu and demanded a ban on Peta, which was instrumental for jallikattu ban. There were hundreds of protests throughout the city, besides the agitations in every district and taluk of Tamil Nadu. The southern districts continued to vibrate with jallikattu protests centred around the historic city of Madurai. Besides boys and girls, children and working and housewives too joined the agitations throughout Tamil Nadu, voicing their anger against the unjust treatment to Tamil Nadu on a range of issues from the massacre of Sri Lankan Tamils to the non-formation of Cauvery Management Board[5].

anti-modi-demo-2017Chennai had two faces in the “Jallikkatu” shows and bandhs: On 20-01-2017, the worst sufferers had been the office goers, regular teavellers and some students who attend private professional institutions. Autos and call taxis kept off the roads even as few government buses plied on the roads with improper announcement[6]. That the Banking operations took a hit with workers taking part in protests and Employees of various IT companies held placards and banners with slogans against NGO People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) etc., appeared artificial, perhaps, they  too wanted publicity or showed them to be supporting for the cause with the vested interests. The “Jallikkattu” protesters purposely occupied the most-crowded junctions, bus-stands and such other places, just to get the attention of others. This only created nuisance at morning and evening hours. Many inter and intra-state trains were fully and partially cancelled while some others were diverted. The suburban EMU services ran late. In Chennai, all roads led to Marina beach with men and women, clad in black, besides children joining the protest that has transcended political and other differences. Though, the schools and colleges did not function, as leave was given to them, the office goers and regular travellers of buses and trains suffered heavily and the autos fleeced them as usual taking the opportunity.

Dhulagarh communal riots: Nothing happened, after all, it was a “local issue” – now everything settled – – why Dhulagarh riots have been communalized, secularized and neutralized! (3)

dulagarh-14-12-2016-mamta-could-answer

TIMES NOW Report From Dhulagarh (December 23, 2016)[1]: For the past one week (13-12-2015 to 20-12-2016), a small town in Howrah, West Bengal has been simmering, boiling and burning. For the past seven days, the people of Dhulagarh have been facing unthinkable hardships – causing many to flee their homes. It all began on December 12, 2016 tension erupted in Dhulagarh when two groups reportedly clashed as a procession was brought out in the area last week. The groups hurled bombs at each other, when houses in Dhulagarh were attacked by an angry mob that hurled bombs and looted and torched people’s homes after they were not allowed to carry out a the procession. So the reportedly attacked groups hurled bombs on each other, however, the homes were targeted, as the processionists had no houses there! How then, the processionists plan to come there with bombs, where houses were there and the people were also there with bombs, so that they could hurl against them? Here, who took out the procession is not mentioned on the occasion of “Miladu Nabi”!

dulagarh-14-12-2016-rioters-in-action-mamta-nothing-happenedSo, Surojit Khara was bold enough to be there, when bombs were hurled and his house was burnt down: TIMES NOW spoke to one resident of a colony in Dhulagarh that was ransacked and torched.  “That day was normal, just like any other day. Some of my neighbours were running. I was thinking whether something was happening. Nobody was ready to talk about it. Then a hoard of people arrived, and started hurling bombs. They looted us and set our houses on fire,” said 28 year old Surojit Khara, who stands as the sole guard of his house – the others have fled the area. “My house, shops were set on fire. This entire lane was set on fire. The temple nearby was attacked with at least 25 bombs. This went on for 3-4 hours,” Khara stated. Frantic calls were reportedly made to the police, who turned up around three to four hours later. The police had to use tear gas to bring the situation under control, reports add. The residents however claim that no action was initiated by the cops even as the violence raged on[2].

dulagarh-14-12-2016-mamta-prays-for-muslimsFirst, it was reported that the Miladi Nabi processionist were Muslims and the targeted were Hindus: On 23rd December, the Times-Now could not tell that the processionist were Muslims. On 31st December, Daily Mail and India Today could identify that the processioners were Muslims and the people who were attacked by them were Hindus. Thus, the sufferings of the Hindus by the Muslim rioters have been brought out by Minhaz Merchant and Insrajit Kundu in “Daily Mail”[3]. Though, the State government announced holiday on 12-12-2016, on the pretext of the Miladu-Nabi procession, the Muslims carried out a rally cum procession, particularly on the auspicious day of “Margashirsha purnia” on 13-12-2015[4].  Knowingly, that particular area, Hindus was performing their celebrations, how the police allowed the procession is intriguing. Any careful or secular police officer would have prevented it, but, it was not done. When they were playing songs in high pitch, after the request of the Hindus, they could have reduced the volume, had they really wanted t respect the sentiments of their Hindu-brethren, but, they did not do. The riot started on 13-12-2016 and continued on 14-12-2016[5].  In fact, as, nowadays, it is common that Police used to videograph entire procession-proceedings, the could easily fix who started provocation leading to riot. Even, if riot started, they must have stopped it. But, what happened was different.

dulagarh-14-12-2016-rioters-in-action-3“Pakistan Zindabad” – would not have been shouted by the Hindus of Dhulagarh: The Hindus had to run to save their lives, leaving their houses and shops with all their belongings. At that time only, the rioters looted, poured petrol and kersine and burnt down. All valuables, cash and other things were carried away. Crude bombs were thrown to terrorize them and reducing their belongings to ashes[6]. The local police remained inactive while the mobs resorted to loot and arson. In one place the police arrived on the spot after the mobs had left. In another they ordered the residents to leave within two minutes and then watched on as the mobs looted and ransacked the house[7]. In yet another, the police came on time but they themselves fled when the mob came[8]. Just adjacent to the Manna household on Banerjee para lives the Mondal’s. Maitri Mondal, a mother of two says she heard chants of “Pakistan Zindabad” as the violent mob entered her bedroom and set it ablaze[9].  Thus, the souting of “Pakistan Zindabad” is intriguing to show their sickening mentality. Dilip Khanra was among many who had locked themselves up inside a room when the mob was nearing the village, pelting crude bombs one after another. “When the police came, we were told to leave our houses in two minutes! They didn’t even stop the mob from vandalizing our homes. They kept looting and burning as the police stood as silent spectators,” he says[10]. Again this proves the role of police in “running the riot”.

dulagarh-14-12-2016-zee-tvTaking strict action against Dhulagarh rioters & compensating: The Governor ordered the DGP to submit a report on the riots and that brought pressure on the government[11]. Meanwhile, top officials at the state home department said SP Howrah (Rural) Sabyasachi Raman Mishra was transferred in the wake of violence in less than a fortnight of his appointment[12]. The West Bengal government today said it had taken strict actions against those involved in the Dhulagarh riots in Howrah district and also started compensating the affected[13]. Rs 30,000/- was announced for the families who lost their houses burnt, but, they told that the compensation was meagre, as they lost everything in their house including money and day-to-day usage articles. A top official at the state secretariat said the government has already started compensating the families affected by the violence which rocked the district earlier this month. “Families in Dhulagarh which have been affected will be compensated. We have also decided to rebuild the houses damaged during the riots,” the officials said on 28-12-2016. Asked if persons involved in the riots were booked, the official said, “The state government has already taken strict action in the matter and arrests have been made… Law will take its own course.” Sources in the district police said people are wary of returning to their homes and thus have to remain homeless, barely 20 km from the state secretariat[14].

secularized-and-neutralized-as-if-nothing-happened-dhulagarh-riotsSecularization of riots, communalism and historiography – is it Marxist or Mamta way?: How Dhulagarh riots have been secularized has been explained above. How “secularism” discourse is used always against “communalism”, where, the former is linked with “Islamism” and the latter with “Hinduism”, reportedly followed by the “Sangj Parivar”. This has been the topic of the seminar held at Thiruvanathapuram by the IHC-experts and a part of IHC, as coincided, decided and attended by the elite, eminent and emeritus historians like Romila Thapar and also Marxist CM-politician Prannayi Vijayan. Last year, there was a coincidence that the Malda riots started just after the IHC session held there. But, how the Dhulagarh riots were completed, and the IHC started with “Secularism” seminar. However, much of secular discourse was carried on Mamta there the TMC-CM, just like Rolima Thapar. Now both are over and we have to wait and see as to Thiruvanathapuram, i.e, Kerala would go in the “Malda way” or “Mata way”, as Mamta appears to have donned the “Marxist garb”!

dulagarh-attacked-on-14-12-2016-rioters-in-action

Indian Express reported only on 17-12-2016, but based on Police version[1]: DHULAGARH IN Howrah continued to be tense on Friday (16-12-2016), days after an attack on a procession held to mark Prophet Muhammad’s birth anniversary (13-12-2016). Houses and shops were burnt down in a retaliatory attack. Since Tuesday (13-12-2016), when the violence started, over 25 people have been arrested. “The Muslims have claimed that they were ambushed by a group of Hindus, who had objected to the procession. The violence was controlled and we arrested a few people,” said a senior police officer. The next day (14-12-2016), a Muslim mob allegedly attacked Hindu homes and shops and them ablaze. “Policemen rushed to the spot and managed to diffuse the tension. But the next day, for almost two hours, there was a stand-off between the police and rioters from both communities. They were carrying bombs… We used tear gas shells… Finally, we had to call in reinforcements to bring the situation under control,” said the officer. Police said a case has been registered under charges of rioting and breaking communal harmony against members of both communities. “The situation is under control… Forces, including RAF, have been posted at Dhulagarh to maintain peace,” said an officer[2]. When contacted, Trinamool Congress MLA from Sankrail in Howrah, Sital Kumar Sardar, said: “There was some tension. But both communities sat down with the police and came to an amicable solution. Peace has been restored.” Incidentally, here also, the reporter is “Aniruddha Ghosal”, but, he did not express anything of that sort as reported on 29-12-2016.

dulagarh-attacked-on-14-12-2016-rioters-and-policeThe First post’s report appeared on December 28, 2016 based on the reports of other newspapers![3]: Dhulagarh, a town 25 kilometres west of Kolkata, has been simmering for the past fortnight, following communal clashes that saw people’s houses and shops being targetted and set on fire. A “Times Now report” said 65 people have been arrested, and the state administration has asked the DGP Surajit Kar Purakayastha to take prompt action against the culprits and to ensure peace. The tension erupted on 12 December, 2016 when two groups clashed as a procession was brought out in the area last week[4]. After the groups were not allowed to carry out the procession, the “Times Now website” reported, they hurled bombs at each other, and the angry mob also looted and torched people’s homes. The next day, on 13 December, 2016 the occasion of Milad-ul-Nabi, there were further clashes in the area. A section of locals claim the clashes were unprovoked, according to a report in the “DNA newspaper”[5].

dulagarh-14-12-2016-temples-attackedLocal residents claim that they had to flee with their children and elderly as soon as the mob hurled country-made bombs at their houses. Later, the mob allegedly looted the houses and fled with the money and jewellery, later also setting it on fire[6]. “Nothing is left. We are looted of all our belongings. They ransacked and vandalised our houses and eventually set them on fire. We could not save a single penny from our houses, only managed to save our children and ran for life,” said a local, Lakshmi Mallya. The violence didn’t stop there, however. The next day, a Muslim mob allegedly attacked Hindu homes and shops and them ablaze, reported “The Indian Express”. “Policemen rushed to the spot and managed to diffuse the tension. But the next day, for almost two hours, there was a stand-off between the police and rioters from both communities. They were carrying bombs. We used tear gas shells. Finally, we had to call in reinforcements to bring the situation under control,” an officer said.

dulagarh-14-12-2016-rioters-in-action-2BJP group prevented from going to Dhulagarh: A case of rioting and breaking communal harmony was registered against members of both communities. “The situation is under control. Forces, including RAF, have been posted at Dhulagarh to maintain peace,” the “Indian Express” report quoted the officer as saying. However, despite the heavy presence of police and armed forces in the area, things didn’t return to normalcy. A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation — comprising party leaders Jagdambika Pal, Satpal Singh, state president Dilip Ghosh and national secretary Rahul Sinha, and several volunteers — was stopped at Ekabbarapur Road, about one kilometre away from the spot where the clashes had taken place a few days ago, reported “The Quint”[7]. Angered by this, the BJP delegation, along with thousand-odd supporters, blocked the road in protest. Alleging that there is no law and order in the state, Pal said the government was following “appeasement politics towards a particular community”. Ghosh alleged right-wing Muslim outfits and Simi activists have entered the area and were creating trouble[8]. He also said BJP was not given prior any information about prohibitory orders being imposed in Dhulagarh. “We are surprised that police did not allow us to approach the people in the area to know about their plight of sufferings,” Ghosh said.

dulagarh-14-12-2016-chaudhary-vs-banerjeeThe Police became “secular” with the rioters and also with the political parties: CPM the opposition party also attempted to do the same. However, perhaps in an attempt to prove that they weren’t targeting one specific political party, the police also stopped a CPM delegation from entering the violence-scarred area. The CPM team comprised party general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Lok Sabha MP Mohammad Salim and MLA Sujan Chakraborty, among others, said another report in The Indian Express. Having addressed a public rally at Dhulagarh Chaurasta (crossing) and appealed for peace, the CPM leaders tried marching to the locality where arson and clashes had occurred, but the police stopped them. “If we are not being allowed to enter even now, and there is Section 144 of CrPC imposed, it means the situation still hasn’t been brought under control,” Salim said. “Our demand is for the state government to bring normalcy immediately, and paying monetary compensation for those affected by violence.”

sudhir-chaudhary-facebook-27-12-2016Cases filed against Zee-TV reporters for covering the riots: Under fire from various quarters, the state government imposed restrictions on the media regarding coverage of the Dhulagarh violence[9]. According to The New Indian Express, the state government even went a step ahead and slapped a non-bailable offence against three employees of the TV channel Zee News, including editor Sudhir Chaudhary, West Bengal correspondent Pooja Mehta and cameraperson Tanmay Mukherjee under Section 153A (promoting enmity) of the Indian Penal Code[10]. However, the Sankrail police didn’t confirm registering an FIR. “We register over 30 FIRs on a daily basis. We can’t distinguish which are related to Dhulagarh,” said a police officer at the Sankrail police station. Chaudhary took to social networking site Facebook to call the action taken against his channel an example of the West Bengal government’s “intolerance”. “It’s another low point in our democracy to see a democratically elected govt using police force to curb media in an effort to suppress uncomfortable facts and reality. When you can’t manage media, use the state machinery to conquer the media only to conceal the failures of your administration. It shows the intolerance of a chief minister who is using the state machinery as her personal fiefdom and acting like a feudal lord,” he wrote[11]. In a case of crackdown on press freedom, a non-bailable warrant was filed against Zee News reporters by the government of West Bengal for covering the Dhulagarh riots, claims Zee News editor Sudhir Chaudhury[12]. He wrote on Twitter: “@MamataOfficial Govt files FIR against me& @ZeeNews reporter for covering #DhulagarhRiots with Non Bailable sections. FIR for showing truth?”

Why Dhulagarh riots have been communalized, secularized and neutralized, as if nothing happened from 13-12-2016 to 31-12-2016? (1)

Secularizing the riots – both Hindus and Muslims suffered, but Muslims suffered more[1]: The reports coming after riots and printed in the newspapers appear strange, as they do in a more secular way pointing out that both Hindus and Muslims suffered, but Muslims suffered more and so on. Thus, the Indian express reports as follows: A fortnight after violence and arson brought nondescript Dhulagarh, at the heart of Howrah’s micro small and medium enterprises (MSME) growth story, to national discourse, locked doors, shuttered windows and burnt walls unite the neighbouring localities of Pollepara and Munshipara. They are dominated by Hindus and Muslims, respectively. Of many families that fled after the clashes on December 13 and 14, 2016 some Hindus returned this week (before 31st December). Most Muslim neighbourhoods still remain deserted. The reporter however has not exposed the secret or explained the significance of “some Hindus” returning back homes and “Muslim neighbourhood” looking deserted. District officials said more than 100 houses and shops were attacked over those two days[2].  Thus, obviously, the suffered Hindus would have returned to assess about their loss, whereas, the safely gone Muslims would return happily, when everything was normal.

dhulagarh_ndtv

“Some Hindus returned this week. Most Muslim neighbourhoods still remain deserted”: Whether Aniruddha Ghosal had written this as directed by the editor of Indian Express or by the State authorities, it is evident that the tone and tenor or drafting, editing and approved text printed in the newspaper proves that the “communal riot” is interpreted as “secular” and “economic loss” is secularized, as if the insurance companies do not pay for the insured machines, etc., owned by the Muslims, but not by the Hindus. What happens to the uninsured houses and shops of the poor Hindus? Is it communal for them not to be insured, because of poverty? Here, the point is after the “communal riots”, December 12 and 13, 2016, nothing was reported in the print and electronic media. After the details spread through “Social media”, the elite, eminent and professional press woke up and started reporting guardedly, as Zee-TV colleagues were clamped with police action. Ironically, the fellow media people did not condemn the State government’s action for throttling the freedom of press, but, now, Indian Express gathered strength, but, reporting differently.

Secularizing the loss: “More Hindu homes and shops were attacked, but the financial damage done to Muslim-owned factories is far more: “More Hindu homes and shops were attacked, but the financial damage done to Muslim-owned factories is far more,” an administration official said. Superintendent of Police, Rural (Howrah), Sumit Kumar said, “There have been 56 arrests. Violence took place on December 14 and since then it’s been peaceful. Investigations are on.” About 30 km from Kolkata, Dhulagarh’s MSMEs focus on embroidery and garment-manufacturing. Already dealt a big blow by demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, many units in the area have now downed shutters following the violence. According to local officials and unit owners, equipment averaging around Rs 5 lakh per unit has been destroyed, raw material burnt, and workers left unemployed. The economy of Dhulagarh has been crippled. State government statistics say there are 350 functional units in the Howrah clusters, of which locals estimate about 100 are in Dhulagarh. The Howrah units employ more than 9,000 people, and the average investment in each plant and machinery is calculated at Rs 5 lakh.

Most of the garment manufacturing unit are owned by the Muslims: “I have seen at least 10 factories gutted in the last few days,” said Zakir Sardar. “Most units were owned by Muslims, and were in areas where people from both communities lived in equal numbers. These have been targeted.” Zakir’s factory, which employed 40 people, was destroyed, along with parts of his house. Why not the Hindus could not have any factory, though, they were also in equal numbers in that area is not known. Sheikh Allaudin claimed his factory, surrounded by homes of Hindu families, was targeted on December 14. 2016. Here, it is clear that unless the surrounding Hindus were attacked first, his factory would not have accessed to. Therefore, it is abundantly clear that the rioters wanted to attack the Hindus and the damage caused to Muslim factory was incidental. “We had got new machinery from abroad with loan amounting to Rs 18 lakh per unit. We were hoping to start exports from next year. We have now taken a loss that could touch Rs 1 crore. That essentially puts us out of business.” Alima Begum, another factory owner, said, “With demonetisation, we suddenly didn’t have cash to pay workers, and they understandably left. Most work in the garment sector is done in cash, especially with traders from Gujarat and Maharashtra. They stopped buying from us. And then the violence…” Here also, if their intention was business, then there would not have been provoking procession etc.

dulagarh-attacked-on-14-12-2016-victim-explains-times-now

Had they really interested in manufacture and income, they would not have indulged in rioting: As reported by “Indian Express”, as the Muslims were having embroidery and garment-manufacturing units, they must have concentrated only in the production, sale and earning profit out of the business. But, their involvement in politics, communal orientation and vote bank polity prove their intentions have been different. In other words, they have been exploiting the riots as a factor to increase the business, by making the Hindus poor. As the administration official said, “More Hindu homes and shops were attacked, but the financial damage done to Muslim-owned factories is far more,” then, the fact exposes their modus operandi. They have been pumping the profit or black money (as they used to sell without bills, accounting etc), for orchestrating riots. By displacing Hindus fro that area, they would settle more “Banglasesh Muslims” there, so that to increase their percentage easily. The idea of communalizing the loss in terms of “financial damage” is also intriguing, as to how they could think in such lines. In other words, the running riot project has become so profit making and this exploiting everything

Hindus attacked the Miladi Nabi procession – now the story turns 1800 U-turn!: On December 13, 2016, a religious procession on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi was attacked. That is what many people from both communities in Dhulagarh agree on — and where their divergence starts. While the Muslim community alleged that their procession was stopped and Muslim youths were forced to chant names of Hindu gods, and then attacked, people from the Hindu community blamed “outsiders” for the attack. They alleged Muslim youths came prepared with weapons. The spark began near Annapurna Club at Dewanghat. Sheikh Narul Alam, one of the elders in the procession, said, “We had loudspeakers in our procession, and some people from the Hindu community objected to that. We turned off the loudspeakers. But some youths demanded that we chant names of Hindu gods. We refused. They started throwing stones.”

dulagarh-14-12-2016-mamta-could-answer

The Hindu community has a different version: Indian Express says, that “The Hindu community has a different version”! Rabin Das, whose house at Banshtala in Dhulagarh was a few metres from the spot, said many youths in the procession were carrying “swords and bombs”, and then a crude bomb was hurled at his house. “We fled,” he said. Das said — and several locals concurred — his house was one of the first to be burnt. An embroidery factory abutting the house, owned by brothers Kamal and Jamaluddin Sheikh, was also gutted in the attack. “Who knows whether they (attackers) were Hindus or Muslims…. They were just out for blood,” Das said. Ujwal Das, a local worker, said: “The violence began outside the Allahabad Bank branch, where people had been in queue for long to withdraw cash. Tempers were already frayed,” said. It started with a stray fight, and became big, he added. On December 14, violence spread to hitherto unaffected areas — the primarily Muslim-dominated prosperous area of Haishar Para and Munshipara, and Hindu-dominated areas of Banerjeepara and Pollepara. The BJP has alleged that the whole incident was made worse by the TMC. Last week, BJP MP Roopa Ganguly alleged that a TMC legislator was behind the arson and looting, and that “minority appeasement” politics of TMC was responsible for the violence. TMC has denied the allegations.

The politics of burning effigies in 2016 by the Congress cons, Dravidian dons and JNU junkies!

October 14, 2016

The politics of burning effigies in 2016 by the Congress cons, Dravidian dons and JNU junkies!

ravana-lila-english-bannerDravidar Kazhagam’s racial approach continues even in 2016:  The misguided Dravidar Kazhagam, of various banners still, believes in Aryan-Dravidian racial hypotheses and theories” and work emotionally with raid radicalism. The day after Dussera was celebrated with the burning of effigies of King Raavan in many parts of the country on 12-10-2016, as announced, about 40 members of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam [TPDK] landed at the Sanskrit College at Mylapore in Chennai on 13-10-2016 Wednesday to burn effigies of Ram, Sita and Lakshmanan[1].  The group had originally planned to hold the event outside the Madras Sanskrit College of Chennai to protest against the institution’s version of the Ramayana, but it was later shifted to a spot about a kilometre away due to police intervention[2]. While 11 of them were remanded under Section 285 of Indian Penal Code, 12 members of a Hindu group were detained near Sanskrit college in Mylapore[3]. Thus, the media differed in reporting the event.

ravana-lila-tamil-bannerPDK’s attempt to hold Ravan Leela flops[4]: Deccan Chronicle reported wth this caption. The attempt by Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam members to celebrate the Ravan leela deifying the demon king and projecting him as Dravidian stalwart, while belittling Lord Ram, turned into a fiasco with the police taking 55 persons of PDK into custody on Wednesday. Even before the members could assemble and burn an effigy in front of Sanskrit College, Mylapore, in the city on Wednesday evening, the police pre-empted their move and arrested 55 persons. The PDK had announced to stage Ravan leela as the outfit believed that Ravan was a Dravidian and burning his image during Dusshera celebrations in many parts of India amounted to “mocking” the Dravidians. “This is only a bid to stoke controversy and is intended to insult the Hindu gods and hurt the sentiments of the believers,” Hindu Makkal Katchi state president Arjun Sampath said reacting to the development. The staunch Hindu outfit has demanded the police to detain the PDK members under NSA and prevent such incidents in future. “The PDK is taking things a bit too far. The attempt to hold Ravan leela is an assault on our culture and it is highly condemnable,” Mr Sampath said[5].

lord-sri-rama-1971-dk-chappal-garlandedWhy Ravan leela? – the racist question asked by modernists!: The pro-Muslim media “Scroll.in” reported differently. This was the Periyarist group’s answer to Ram Leela – Ravanan Leela to demonstrate their opposition to the Ram Leela celebrations that depict the victory of King Ram over Raavan, who, according to Indian mythology, had kidnapped Ram’s wife Sita[6]. Amidst tight security, and all efforts of the police to stall the event, the members of the fringe group did manage to burn a few effigies, including that of Lord Ram[7]. Kumaran / Tinker Kumaron, a member of the TDPK said, “Every year, in North India, Ram Leela is celebrated by burning effigies of Raavan, This is being done to insult South Indians. We consider Raavan to be a Dravidian….As per our plan we broke the police chain around us and burned the effigy. 11 persons who were involved in burning effigies have been remanded by police.”

Ramakrishnan, general secretary, Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, said that the act was a reaction to the celebration of Ram Leela as a part of Dusshera celebrations across North India, a festival in which the effigy of mythological character Ravanan is set on fire symbolically to represent victory of Lord Ram over Ravanan. “To us, Ramayana, though a mythological story, was a Aryan-Dravidian conflict where Lord Ram was shown to have won against Ravanan, who we consider as a Dravidian. The epic represents Ram as a God and Ravanan as a monster. This is the basis of our opposition,” he said. Criticising the recent celebrations at the Red Fort lawns, which was attended by several high-profile dignitaries including President Pranab Mukherjee, and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Ramakrishnan wondered if India really was a secular country. “Why is the President participating in such a programme? He is the president to whole of India,” he said. It is evident that these people are behaving in this way, knowing the truth that the whole country has been celebrating for many years. Even hundreds years back, it was celebrated in Asfganistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and other countries.

%e0%ae%a4%e0%ae%aa%e0%af%86%e0%ae%a4%e0%ae%bf%e0%ae%95-4Belief in race, racism and racialism: Condemning Ramayana’s ‘racist portrayal’ of ‘Dravidians as demons’, the TPDK said that the Ravanan Leela was their way of protesting against Hindu cultural hegemony. “It does not matter that ‘Ram Leela’ is not celebrated in Tamil Nadu. In Delhi, effigies of Ravanan and his two brothers are burnt, we believe that they are Dravidians and burning their effigies is mocking us. So to stop that, we have decided to celebrate ‘Ravana Leela’ in which we will be burning the effigies of Ram, Sita and Lakshman,” S Kumaran, another TDPL leader had told TNM earlier. He also added that they had written a letter to Prime Minister asking him to stop Ram Leela in Delhi but they did not get any response from his office.  “It is clearly proven once again that the rulers of India will never care to respect the feelings of the Southerners,” said the group. “If they have cared so, then they would not have ventured to burn the effigies of the three choicest heroes of the Dravidian race in the guise of honouring a hero of religious epic.” Kumaron said that this protest against Ram Leela celebrations gathered momentum in 1974, when the group sent a letter to Prime Minister Indira Gandhi demanding a stop to the festivities. But at that time too, they received no reply. Over the next few decades, there have been at least three instances when the group has burnt effigies of Ram, and and been arrested for this.

As reported in Outlook, some of the questions posed by Periyar were, “Isn’t it true that Ravaan abducted Sita as an honourable revenge for the insult heaped upon his sister? Isn’t it a Brahminical ploy to give the colour of lust to a most honourable kidnapping?” The DK spinter groups have always been attacking the soft target – the Brahmins! They cruelly cut a poor Brahmin at West Mambalam some years ago with aruval (study sword), and another Brahmin in Mylapore last year (April 2015)[9].

%e0%ae%a4%e0%ae%ae%e0%ae%bf%e0%ae%b4%e0%ae%95%e0%ae%a4%e0%af%8d%e0%ae%a4%e0%ae%bf%e0%ae%a9%e0%af%8d-%e0%ae%aa%e0%ae%be%e0%ae%b0%e0%af%8d%e0%ae%aa%e0%af%8d%e0%ae%aa%e0%ae%a9%e0%ae%bf%e0%ae%af-%e0%ae%8eSplinter DK groups attack Brahmins following the path of Periyar: MT Saju writes that in the 1970s too, Periyarists conducted Ravanan Leelas. He reminds us that after Periyar died, his wife Maniyammai burnt the effigy of Ram at Periyar Thidal in 1974[10]. But since then, it has not been a popular event. Thus, for some reason, some people want to create ruckus now. Dravidian movement analyst K Thirunavukarrasu said that this anti-Ram sentiment has existed since the beginning of the Dravidian movement in the 1920s. The 1940s saw the publication of works such as Raavana Kaviyam (Raavana Epic) by Pulavar Kuzhandhai and Iranyan Allathu Inayatra Veeran(Hiranya or the Unparalleled Warrior) by Bharatidasan, which eulogised the characters Raavan and Hiranyakashyap, who had been depicted as asuras in popular versions of Indian mythological stories. “The asuras have been depicted in these stories in a manner that denigrates Dravidians,” said Thirunavukarrasu. As Periyar used to say, “If you see a snake and Brahmin, leave snake but kill Brahmin”, these goons are following such bloody method.

jnu-modi-effigy_2016Dravidian King Ravana was a Brahmin: The atheist Dravidian ideologists do not believe Puranas, yet, they believe them for their myth-making. As they believe Aryan-Dravidian race theories, at one side they claim that Ravana was a Brahmin! “The intention of the Dravidian movement is to oppose the depiction of Dravidas as asuras in all these plays.” Tamil writer D Ravikumar said that according to the version of the Ramayana written by medieval Tamil poet Kambar, Raavan was not a Dravidian King but a Brahmin. “If you look at this from the lens of Kambar’s Ramayana, it is hard to say how he came to be associated with Dravidian identity,” said Ravikumar. Ravikumar said that around the 1960s, Tamil Nadu politics was based on antagonism towards North India, Brahminism, Aryans and Hindi. The protest against Ram Leelas rode on this sentiment, he said. But in the 1970s and 1980s, the issue became irrelevant. When the main parties in power were all Dravidian parties, it was no longer a vote-catching subject. “Now, this has been revived by some groups after the BJP has come to power,” said Ravikumar. “Raavan acts as an anti-BJP symbol. But we don’t know how successful it will be.”

%e0%ae%b0%e0%ae%be%e0%ae%ae%e0%ae%9a%e0%af%87%e0%ae%a4%e0%af%81-%e0%ae%95%e0%ae%b0%e0%af%81Karunanidhi playing Ravana (1998): On October 1, 1998, Anoor Jagadeesan, president of PDK and 16 others were arrested when they tried to burn the effigies of Rama and Lakshmana in Chennai[11]. On October 18, 1998, Karunanidhi asserted that[12], “….if you insult Ravana, you are insulting me”. In Ramasethu issue also, he passed remarks asking “In which engineering college Rama studied” (so that he could build a bridge). Even, Kamal Hasan also used to utter that he came from Ravan geneology or something like that!

r-s-manohar-as-ravanaIlangeswaran vs Ravana Leela: R. S. Manohar (1925-2006) used to portray all Asuras as heroes – Surapadman, Sisupalan, Narakasuran, Indrajit, Sukrachariyar etc., in his characteristic projection in his dramas, which were successful in 1970-80s. He too projected Ravana as “Ilankeswaran”, the Lord of Lanka, but, not the Dravidian way of contempt, hatred and blasphemy. In fact, he followed the Puranic narration and other hagiographical details. Understandably, he was never supported or honoured by the Dravidian leaders or even Periyar for his donning Asuras! And now, the fringe elements have started the old game, when the Dravidian CM, that too, a lady has been ailing in hospital.

the-ravan-effigy-burned-at-jnuModi effigy burned by the Congress and JNU students[13]: A group of students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on 11-10-2016 Tuesday burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief chief Amit Shah, Mahatma Gandhi’s killer Nathuram Godse and others to mark the “victory of truth over falsehood” on the occasion of Dussehra. Members of the Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Tuesday night celebrated Dussehra by burning the effigy of Modi and others to protest against the growing interference of the Centre in universities and attacks on Dalits.“We celebrated the victory of truth over falsehood in a modern and democratic country by burning effigies. For us Modi and RSS are symbol of untruth,” said Sunny Diman, an NSUI member[14]. So, the Congress party too has taken such method of politics of burning effigies exploiting the occasion of “Viyayadasami”. Ironically, the Congress leaders have been questioning the successful surgical operations on these days at one side and indulging in such cheap and vulgar activities at another side.

Hindu Maya and Christian Cyber-missions, evangelism and Implications

November 5, 2012

Hindu Maya and Christian Cyber-missions, evangelism and Implications

Iwrote this five years back anticipitating the Chritian propaganda unleashed through cyber-space with the blessings of MNCs. With the LPG, they target Indian society easily with their aggressive marketing capabilities using all methods without any code of ethics or morality. Considering the relevancy and context, I post this here without any change salvaging from Internet.

Cyber-mission on war-path to attack India – the First Crusade may start at any time: On 30th July, 2007, John Dyal was interviewed by the NDTV news reader and repeatedly asked about the Catholic Cyber Conversion adopted and adapted recently. Reacting to this, vigorously and crazily John Dyal started justifying it. When persisted how religion could be brought to the virtual world, he blurted out that “Why not” – Hindus say that the entire world is Maya. Then, it was shown as if the TV crew get opinion of Delhi-students with Christian, half-Christian-half-Hindu and Hindu names accepting and supporting such Cyber-conversion, evidently without understanding the implications. Thus, it appears that Vatican has incorporated Cyber-mission in its agenda and there would be more Roberto de Nobilis, Beschis, Bede Griffiths, Hans Staffners, Clooneys, and so on with laptops with wireless internet connections. Of course, they started already.

Definition of Cyber-crusade / Holy-War / Jihad: John Edmiston discussed about, “Missions in Cyberspace: The Strategic Front-Line Use Of The Internet In Missions“, in www.cybermissions.org. He claims: “One of these means is the use of theInternet. And one of the most exhilarating frontiers of mission today is cyber-missions; the frontline use of IT to evangelize and disciple the nations. In this article we will keep the focus on cross-cultural mission web sites and strategic approaches to ministry online such as web-evangelism, email discipleship, web-based TEE and icafes as a church-planting strategy. This paper will review the potential, the actual uses and the successful implementation of Internet-based missionary outreach and put the case for missionary societies to have an Internet evangelism department headed by a Field Director – Cyberspace. I have intentionally excluded the traditional uses of computing in missions or the use of the Internet for mono-cultural ministry as this has already been extensively reviewed elsewhere (for instance in the work of Leonard Sweet)” [the key words are given in colour].

Hindus untochables or experts in Cyber-religion? Can Hindus match for this? Are they prepared to take? Yes, definitely, Hindus are capable considering the IT workers and experts in the field. But, the Christians think differently, if all these Hindu guys and girls are converted, what would happen to Hindu religion? Yes, with single stroke, they can strategically enslave the Cyber-untochables and John Daya & Co., would start fighting for them also starting a Cyber-Dalit Liberation Front, All India Cyber-SC-ST Federation for which D’Souza, Udit Raj and others  might be President, Secretary and so on sending reports to Bush, Bill Gates, Vatican, UN and what not.

We should have corresponding figures for users in Hindi, Tamil and other languages. The English includes, Hindu users also.

Warning – the anti-Hindu groups would gang together: Of course, they tie-up with Muslims, secularists, atheists, anti-Hindu groups etc., or they themselves create such web-missions with such names and attack Hindus by all means. Then, they would have MOU with non-Catholic evangelists of US and EURO countries with the respective Presidents agreeing with the Pope, the Head of Vatican City-State. As the anti-Hindu groups irrespective of their ideologies, gang together on stages in every meeting, seminar or conference, so also they join to attack.

The treatment of Hindu-men under Christian cyber-masters / employers: As the employers are Christians, they have already started pressure on Hindu IT workers and experts. Slowly, it would turn in different direction. When one young Indian software engineer went to US and working there, his fellow Americans used to ask him about the “sandal paste mark” on his forehead etc. Though, he used to give general explanation for their understanding, they used to argue with religious vigor. After some days, one of Americans gave him a Bible, asked to him to read and come for discussion. This is very similar to what has been happening in gulf-countries, where the sheik-masters used to try with Hindu-professionals.

The treatment of Hindu-girs and women under Christian cyber-masters / employers: With Hindu girls and women, they behave differently. Starting with commenting on their mode of dress, colour etc., slowly, they praise about their beauty and so on. Of course, the Supreme Court judgment and direction about the treatment of women at work places applicable in India would not be applicable there and we do not know as to whether any equivalent Act, Rules or provisions are to check such “women teasing” [I do not want to use eve teasing, as they might take it as a right. Yes, as Jehovah teased Eve, the fundamentalist, fanatic Christians could think that it is their right to tease women following their Commandment of God].

Infiltration into, manipulation of and hacking Internet groups: Some Hindu experts and professionals have been successful enough to bring out facts about Indian history, culture, tradition, heritage and civilization in internet. Reading such websites, many educated and learned students, scholars and even professors have been convinced about the logic and facts presented. After all, none could say other than what one generally accept to say “2 + 2 = 4”. Of course, mathematician experts, number theorists and analysts may disagree, that is healthy, intellectual and highly useful for humanity.

Be careful about Carcinogenic Cyber Christians: Assessing the success or rather the impact, the Cyber-missions may all out to attack. So they start infiltrated with their cyber-expertise. As virus has been there affecting humanity, it has been there here also and we see the results. So we have to be careful about Carcinogenic Cyber Christians, who may be otherwise known as respectfully hackers and so on. The conversion of Indian civilization to Hindu civilization might be the reason for such cyber-invasion and infiltration.

Hindus should not be just satisfied with Virtual pujas, Bajans, philosophy etc: Now, many Hindus are interested in Computers, Internet etc., because, they get wonderful-colourful pictures of Gods and Goddesses, Bajan-downloads, virtual pujas with all paraphernalia and so on.

Of course, there are inter-religious skirmishes, philosophical debates with arrogance as usual, “I am modest treading middle-path or secular” type discussions. Here, over-zealous, pride and arrogant postings should be avoided, as the opponents may use such arguments against Hindus.

Instead, they can discuss and debate about the rites, rituals and ceremonies conducted by them in different countries, how they differ, why divergence, why such differences are not made to India-criticizing scholars, etc., would be worthwhile.

Hindus may get many e-mails regularly bombarding them to accept Christ for redemption. Of course from the desperate fundamentalist-fanatic categories, they may get threatening mails like “If you do not accept, you will go to hell” and so on. Of course, Hindus may get pornography also along with Jesus Christ or the Word of God with Satanic temptation! [I am not writing this with any wrong impression on Christians, with the past experience with Christians. My friends and I received hundreds of such letters, pamphlets and books from Christians, when Christian issues were discussed in Indian Express and other journals]. As time and space change, the tactics change but old-habits may not change.

They may post some issues and divert or lead them to ticklish issues resulting in controversies. They may rehash the same old “Aryan-Dravidian”, anti-Brahmin like stuff. They may make personal attacks as a last resort. Or worst, they would accuse Hindus as “Hindutva-wadis”, “Saffron brigade”, “Hindu fundamentalists”, “Sanga parivar” and so on. Anyway, truth triumphs always.

That is why I use to say often, we have to identify the Hindu-baiters, Hindu-enemies and Hindu-betrayers, expose them to all and treat them as such, as Hindu society cannot and could not produce or have such elements.

 Oh Hindus be ready.

The so-called 300 / 3000 Ramayanas: The Dravidian propaganda

The so-called 300 / 3000 Ramayanas: The Dravidian propaganda

By Sri Vedaprakash, March 16, 2008

Note: This topic is again and again brought to the notice of the readers. However, the atheists, the Dravidian propagandists, Communists, Christians and Muslims hiding under such banners again and again rake up the issue without reading Ramayana. Unfortunately, they even do not read what these Ramanujan, Paukla and others have written. Yet, they go on rehash the stuff. Therefore, I have to point out their hollowness to plant such mischievous postings appearing then and there.
Ramayana once again[1]!:Ever since the Sethu-Samuthram controversy has cropped up, the Dravidian ideologists, Karu’s Court Historians[2] and others ganged up together circulating the old-stories as authentic histories. Of course, the propaganda carried on by this hysterical gang has parallel only in Hitler’s camp. Of course, any reader can note it is the Black Parivar[3] and the Red Parivar[4] would very often take the Hitler-stick to beat others, but they do not realize that they have been following only Hitler. Coming to the point, now their main attack has been against Rama and Ramayana and therefore, the Karu’s Court historians started digging up old polemical writings, scurrilous pamphlets and anti-Hindu literature to serve their perverted purpose.

The “Viduthalai” [5] (March 14th and 13th dated), the DK-mouth piece, but with the blessings of Karu has brought out one brief of A. K. Ramanujam’s paper “Three Hundred Ramayanas”. T. R. Balu has made a visit and met Karu on 14th. Therefore, the coincidence can be noted and there would be raking up the issue again. The Communist super intelligent leaders have also started the nonsensical blabbering that Ramayana is myth and so on.

The Dravidian Love for Paula Richman: Recently, the Dravidian protagonists have again started their blasphemy against Sri Rama under the guise of historical research, analytical wisdom, Aryan-Dravidian race hypotheses[6] , their (Aryan-Dravidian) continuous struggle-for- ever in India and other ideologies. Incidentally, now, one way or the other, as they have drawn attention to Paula Richman’s book, “Many Ramayanas”, it is imperative to read what exactly, she mentions about the subject, which has been so fascinated to these atheist rabble-rousers. I have read the book carefully and particularly, the interpretations, many times to understand the psyche behind it. Actually, the whole story has not been new Indian scholars, researchers and at least, those who know about the origin of Ramayana[7]. A. K. Ramanujam’s paper[8] “Three Hundred Ramayanas” appears in “Many Ramayanas” of Paula Richman.

The book is nothing but compilation of articles of different personalities, purportly to look into the diversity of a narrative tradition in South Asia. Narrative, rendering, oral tradition, from oral to writing and vice versa, translation etc., can be entertained only literary criticism, when such liberality of literature is there in a society. Where, the thought process is control, such exercise cannot be undertaken. In fact, in many non-Indian societies, such narrative, rendering, oral tradition, from oral to writing and vice versa, translation etc., had been done away long back. Even today in the so-called modern, civilized, advanced, progressed, etc., times, such exercise is not possible in other non-Indian literature. Therefore, the literary critics should understand and appreciate the nuances, before criticizing the “many Ramayanas” or sending wrong signals.

Paula Richman has stories of A. K. Ramanujan, Frank E. Reynolds, Kathleen E. Erndl, David Shulman, Velcheru Narayan Rao, Clinton Seely, Staurt H. Blackburn, Paula Richman, Patricia Y. Mumme, Philip Lutgendorf, and Ramdas Lamb discuss about such narratives etc., and it appears as English rendering of any Tamil Pattimandram discussing the very old questions of mutilation of Surpanaka, Sita’s fire ordeal, etc. Unfortuinately, the sole aim of the compilation appears to deride, disparage and denigrate by choosing the topic under the guise research with historical camouflage.

300 or 3000 Ramayanas?: That there are “300 Ramayanas” as exactly counted has not been the original idea of A. K. Ramanujan, but, as he himself confessed that it belongs to one “student of Ramayana”, Canille Bulcke[9], who only counted so – exactly 300! Then to add his contribution, A. K. Ramanujan mentions[10] that according to a Kannada scholar[11] there are more than a thousand Ramayanas in Kannada! Then, adds that according to a Telugu scholar[12] there are more than a thousand Ramayanas in Telugu! At least, the Telugu scholar appears to be probably reasonable, as he said “more than a thousand”! It is not known why the learned scholar stops with, as he could have consulted Malayali scholar, Marathi scholar, Oriya scholar, Bengali scholar, Gujarathi scholar, Rajasthani scholar, Hindi scholar, Kashmiri scholar and so on.

So here, the point is that Ramayana story has been so popular among every society of the ancient civilizations and accepted by the members of different societies, each member wanted to recognize and transform such Ramayana character to the identified members of society or vice versa for exhibiting similar or same characteristics. When one asks, “Ey, why are you sleeping like Kumbakarna?” , it does not imply that his brother is like Ravana and so on. It has been used figuratively to drive out the point as such characterization has been known to everybody. Thus, he cannot be considered to have created one more Ramayana!

The so-called freedom of thought expression and opinion: The existence of 300 or 3,000 or 30,000 Ramayanas has been the credit to the popularity of Ramayana as a human-literature, Universal literature long back and it does not discredit as the existence of more Bibles[13] or Quarans or Korans[14], as the very mention would be anathema. Perhaps, the persons, who talk about “300 Ramayanas” do not know the existence of more Bibles or Korans., but the faithful believers destroyed many or all according to their own estimate and accounting and finally have one “printed version”, declared as infallible and revealed through God as the “Word of God”, so none could change anything thereafter. But they do not explain why there were hundreds of Bibles and Korans and why they were destroyed. How they could have selected the existing version only as the exact tract as revealed to their respective prophets to be accepted as authentic and authorized. How such divine grace had descended on the chosen group to decide and do accordingly.

Indians have not leaned the art of editing, expurging and interpolation of verses of books, as done by the non-Indians. They have not learned the art of destruction of earlier, differing or opposing versions and to claim that this is the only “Authorized version” or “Revealed Book”.

The Arabic tradition of rendering Poetry and Koran: The Arabic tradition has been that the Arabic poets would only recite their poems, be listened and enjoyed and appreciated by others and they were never written down. Particularly, in the case of Koran, it was strongly believed that as it was revealed by Allah through Jibreal / Gabriel to the Prophet Mohammed (PBCH), it has to be learned by heart by listening to the recital by the experts. There had / have been groups exclusively for the purpose of recital of Koran. Only later, the writing down of Koran and its translation into other non-Arabic languages started. As Ibn Warraq has elaborately dealt with about it, it is not discussed here. In fact, Mohammed Mamaduke Picthall[15] in his foreword clearly records the following points:

1.. It may be reasonably claimed that no Holy Scriptures can be fairly presented by one who disbelieves its inspiration and its message.
2.. The Koran cannot be translated. That is the belief of old-fashioned sheikhs and the view of the present writer (H. M. Pitchall).
3.. …the Glorious Koran, that inimitable symphony, the very sounds of which move men to tears and ecstasy.

In India, the society has been liberal, democratic and egalitarian, so the members have liberty to pursue their literary pursuits. Thus, they make one God to many Gods; make male and female Gods with child God also; many times lover; employer and slave; chieftain, king and emperor and so on. It increases his thinking and creativity. The painter and sculptors too follow such pattern and depict Gods and Goddesses accordingly. This is the real freedom of thought, expression, and exhibition of artistic talent. That is why the negative characterization is opposed and condemned. Nowadays, it has become fashion for elite artists, eminent historians and social activists to come out and support such errant perverts, but it is not correct, as could be seen. For example, A cannot of sleeping with B’s wife, just because, he has the freedom of thinking. Having such freedom of thinking, he cannot express openly to B, because he has freedom of expression. As B too have such rights and starts exercise his rights of freedom of thought and expression the consequences are well known. Therefore, there are individual rights which should not violate the rights of others. If this fundamental is not known or knowingly, continuously violated, definitely the peaceful people may react one day. Therefore, it is better to live amicably instead of provoking others. In such situations and conditions, only the provoking forces are barbaric, medieval, lumpen and so on.

Any other world literature does not have such elasticity, flexibility, liberality, democracy, egalitarianism proves that they are controlled and suppressed. Therefore, there cannot be any freedom of thought, expression and opinion entertained in such societies. Even, there is no freedom to tell the fact that there were 300 / 3000 Bibles and Korans, but they were destroyed and now there is only one! Here, Salman Rusdie and H. F. Hussain can be contrasted in the context; Ibn Warraq and EVR; Karunanidhi and Taslima Nasreen; Bertrand Russell and Thomas Paine; and so on.

Ramayana characters could be human beings of any age: As mentioned, because of the flexibility of the characterization of Ramayana, it is applicable to any time and place. Ramayana and Mahabharata are played everywhere by the people with their available men and materials. Therefore, in such depiction, dramatization and adapted-rendering, there would variance in all aspects. Taking these literary critics cannot make big fuss out of it. Now Rama and Ravana may come with pants and shirts also. If it becomes, popular, it would be carried on enjoyed by a group. Can it we say, it is 301th Ramayana or 3001th? Yes, it is correct, “as long as there are many Ramas, there would be more Ramayanas”.

But no other literature could be subjected to such process, as in the non-Indian tradition, the very such thought might be unthinkable. We cannot have many non-Indian heroes or Gods. Can Paula Richman produce an edition of “Many Bibles”, “Many Qurans”, like that or any narratives and oral traditions of Jesus, Mary, Joseph, Mohammed, Fatima etc.(just for example, it is asked). Believers of the respective lands and countries know the existence of such narratives, renderings and oral traditions available here and there, but Paula cannot compile. Why even the New Testament apocrypha or Hadis renderings are not discussed, debated and papers presented.

Who can analyze the non-Indian characters (including heroes and heroines, deified heroes and heroines and Gods and Goddesses themselves), criticize or justify their acts of omission or commission, and bring all renderings along with Thomas Paine, Robert Ingersol, Salmon Rushdie, Taslima Nasreen etc. Even Tembavani[16] and Sirappuranam[ 17] cannot be rendered in English, as the orthodox might oppose some verses. In fact, they had already objected to “Kesadhipada varnanai” (= the Tamil traditional narrative of a woman character whoever may be from head to feet, part by part) and removed such verses. Therefore, without going into the details, the western scholars go on commit blunders under the guise of research and it is totally wrong. They should ponder over. As they have big-big University labels, our Dravidian friends immediately, take their renderings and they produce their own renderings to blaspheme Hindus. Here only, the problem comes.

SUN-TV and Ramayana: In SUN-TV group of companies, Karunanidhi and his family members have shares. So why SUN-TV all of sudden start broadcasting “Ramayana”, that too, the much hated, criticized and blasphemed one. Why not the “Ravana Kaviyam” of Kulandai? It is promoted, looked. Loved and considered as “divine” by the Dravidian protagonists including Karnanidhi. He has already accepted that he supports Ravana and he belongs to such clan! Of course, even Kalainjar TV cannot be prevented in broadcasting Ramayana or Mahabhrata, but what about the ideology? They cannot abuse Hindus and cater them with this tamasha. They cannot kill Hindu culture and do this nonsense. They cannot soil the sanctity of temples and try to do some gimmicks. Of course, we know they do not follow the dictum of “Padippathu Ramayanam, idippathu Pillaiyar koil”, but, they meddle with Ramayana and demolish the Temple of Ramayana. That is why now the target is Ramar-palam!
