Miscreants vandalise church in Madurai[1]: The reports have been evidently confused, biased and partial, as the “attackers” have been identified differently.  The “DT Next” published by the “Daily Thanthi” reported that “Miscreants vandalise church in Madurai”. One pastor appearing in U-tube directly accused that RSS attacked[2]. The Hindu reported, “The video of the group threatening one of the prayer homes was uploaded on Facebook by a person claiming to be a Hindu Munnani member.” According to another report, “A case was registered yesterday against 10 Hindu Munnani activists, of whom three have been identified.” In the name of secularism, the pastors what they talked and circulated through U-tube has been emphasizing about their right of worship etc. Interestingly, Vaiko supported Christians and opposed the “Hindu Munnani” cadre for attacking[3]. He also went on to accuse police that they have registered a case against the “unidentified” persons. In “Sub News” video, Iniko Irudhyaraj repeats the same story, but, another Christian accused BJP government at the centre and the “puppet rule” here at Tamilnadu want to carry out their “communal agenda” and thus, the attacks were carried on by the BJP[4]. Therefore, it is evident that the issue of “illegal churches” has been converted into “secular” and “communal” one.  India Today mentioned, “PTI SSN APR ROH SMN SMN” implying that this news is spread through different channels.

The Police assured that they would take legal action: One of the pastors assembled tried to incite Christians by talking in a different way[5]. He was vociferously suggesting that this video (in which was talking) should be circulated and all Church denominations should be united together to fight against the “communal forces.” The police have responded in the most responsible way, though, the Christians tried to create problem and that is revealed in this video[6]. The Police Inspector is seen informing the assembled Christians to be careful in using language against the Police. He asked the responsible persons to talk with him, so that he could respond. He informed that as they had already given a petition to the Collector and he in turn would instruct the police, definitely, they would take action legally. “As you are not enemies of the police, do not talk in such way,” he told pointing to some persons on his RHS.

Christians started playing safe and legally in the sense that they tried to exploit the judgments pronounced in the different contexts: From the above, it can be noted that the words and expressions, “Church”, “prayer hall”, “prayer conducted at a house” etc are mentioned differently, evidently, to suit the court judgments. In places like Kanayakumari, the Christians have their own problems, as different denominations object to each other for the construction of prayers halls, churches and other propaganda activities. If they are really faithful to their religion and worshiping their gods, then, there could not have been such rivalry, but, as they get foreign funds and they have to spend for the building of churches, such competition has been turning into enmity. The court judgments amply expose such internal rivalry. In other words, the Church known pretty well about the legal position and they have started playing safe and legally in the sense that they tried to exploit the judgments pronounced in the different contexts. The illegally built or performed “places of worship” issue is turned into different issue. Thus the so-called, “the attack of such places” is decided to be exploited by them under the bogies of “Secularism and communalism”.

Politicization of the issue suppressing the facts: Akshaya Nath of “India Today”, as usual gives the Christian version, but, failed to vertify the facts from other side[7]. His narrative goes in this way[8], “The incidents have got a lot of attention now, with many politicians paying a visit to the affected people. MDMK leader Vaiko, who was one of the first politicians to reach the site, said, “Everyone should live in harmony, some hooligans in the name of Hindu outfits have started this violence. These goons should be put behind the bars.” TTV Dinakaran, who had visited the location and met the affected pastors and devotees in Madurai after his announcing his party, said, “This is a barbaric act, people of Tamil Nadu will not accept communal or religious riots against the public. Here all are united. India is not a Hindu, Muslim or Christian country. Here all are living together whether it is majority or minority, we are all living like brothers and sisters. Especially, in Tamil Nadu because of great leader like Periyar, because of the Dravidian movement, because of the social reform, people will never look into their community or religion. People will never accept these things and those who did this will never succeed in Tamil Nadu.” In five days if the prayer homes were not shut the pastors will be killed was the warning given by the alleged Hindu groups, “This is a very isolated place, it is kind of scary. I am not able to leave my wife and children alone here,” said Jerome. “Everyone comes and meets us, many come and click pictures with us and go, now after all this there is no one to protect us, no politician, no police, none except for god,” said Priya. As these believers continue their lives in the hope that God will protect them, the fear of an attack by haters is given them sleepless nights”. Thus, he does not care for illegal constructions and related issues.

The State minority commissioner Bishop M Prakash met the pastors at Prayer Tower (16-03-2018): Under these circumstances, state minority commissioner Bishop M Prakash met the pastors at Prayer Tower, a church at Bypass Road and interacted with them[9]. Talking to reporters later, the commissioner said that their main role was to protect the rights of minorities and they had received numerous petitions from Madurai after the attack on prayer halls. That was the reason why he had come down to hear their grievances. They also received petitions from other minorities. Based on his findings, he would suggest to the government to take action on the petitions, he said.

Representatives of independent Christian churches have accompanied the commissioner when he met Madurai collector K Veera Raghava Rao and they urged the collector to take action against the functionaries who vandalised prayer halls[10]. The minority commissioner later also met Madurai city police commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal and discussed the matter. Meanwhile, Koodalputhur police in Madurai city limits have filed three cases pertaining to vandalisation of prayer halls. Based on complaints filed by I Immanuvel from Anbu Nagar, S Stanilaus and M Jegatheesan from Anaiyur, police have registered case against 50 unknown persons. The members of churches accompanying minority commissioner said they will stage mass demonstration if the miscreants were not arrested. A demonstration has also been planned by various organizations in Madurai city in this regard.

Hindu Munnai cadres arrested (19-03-2018 and 20-03-2018): Madurai City police on Tuesday, 20-03-2018 made the third arrest in connection with disruption of Sunday prayers at three prayer halls in Anaiyur and Koodal Pudur on March 11, 2018[11]. The arrested person was identified as K. Thanga Venkatesh (41) of Vilangudi[12]. He is the district secretary of Hindu Munnani. The city police have already arrested two other Hindu Munnani cadre, V. Aravindhan (21) of Thathaneri and D. Senthil Kumar (38) of Konnavayan Salai, in this connection[13]. Thus, the police has started arresting HM cadres, but, nothing is discussed about illegal prayers halls etc[14]. Ironically, the HM cadre has also not been expressive enough to present facts in its approach so far.

St Joseph Hospice: a place for dying or dead people, what has been happening to dead bodies? Why no action taken from 2012 to 2018? (3)

Saint Joseph,oldage-cremation-vault

What the authorities were doing from 2012 to 2018?: Incidentally and ironically, the same type of news, accusation about the burial of dead bodies and connected details came out, only because of the public finding out “something” suspicious, wrong and violations were taking place. Therefore, the concerned and connected officers:

  1. Social welfare department, Govt. of Tamilnadu and its officials visited in 2012.
  2. District Social Welfare Officer
  3. The VAO of the area.
  4. The DSP / Superintendent of Police, Kancheepuram Police District

– must have taken decision and action to check the violations of the Hospice, but, nothing appeared to have been done. After six years, the same issues have come out with horrified details added. Therefore, a reasonable doubt arises as to whether these authorities and the Christian institutions have colluded with each other to carry out such horrible, terrific and dreadful activities in dealing with old people dying and dead. The Indian Express pointed out that, “They were surprised to find that the hospice did not just take care of the destitute elderly, but also had a multi-tier vault for storing corpses[1]. The vaults appeared like bank lockers. After a certain number of years, the vaults were reused. While it is unclear if the hospice management obtained permission to build the vault, what raised concern among officials was the lack of monitoring on whose bodies were deposited there and how the remains were processed. The home’s licence expired a few months ago and its application for renewal has not yet been approved[2]. “We raised concern about the absence of supervision on how the home handles bodies. We don’t even know if they obtain death certificates before depositing the corpses in the vault,” said a health department official. While rules mandate that the remains in the vault be cleared only once in 13 years, local residents claimed the management had been clearing them every few months.

Human skeletons, bones, bone powder export from Chennai, Tamilnadu: The export of human skeletons, bones, bone powder etc., was exported till 1985 legally from Indian ports, including Madras[3]. The export data from the Madras port proves the fact. For medical research and teaching, they are regularly required not only in foreign countries, but also in India, as more and more medical colleges are coming up. In 1985, however, the Indian government outlawed the export of human remains, and the global supply of skeletons collapsed[4]. But, years after India’s export ban, there are signs that the trade never ended, as black-market vendors in West Bengal [and also other parts of India] continue to supply human skeletons and skulls using the time-honored method[5]: Rob graves, separate soft flesh from unyielding calcium, and deliver the bones to distributors — who assemble them and ship them to dealers around the globe. The processing plant is little more than a bamboo hut with a tarpaulin roof — one of a dozen bone factories Pal says he knows about. In April, the authorities confiscated piles of bones, buckets of hydrochloric acid, and two barrels full of a caustic chemical they have yet to identify. All that’s left is a dirt floor with a large concrete vat sunk into the ground. First the corpses were wrapped in netting and anchored in the river, where bacteria and fish reduced a body to a loose pile of bones and mush in a week or so. The crew then scrubbed the bones and boiled them in a cauldron of water and caustic soda to dissolve any remaining flesh. That left the calcium surfaces with a yellow tint. To bring them up to medical white, bones were then left in sunlight for a week before being soaked in hydrochloric acid[6]. Therefore, it can easily be found out as to how thousands of skeletons were disposed off from the vaults of St Joseph Hospices, as they were cleared outside from the pits. Definitely, they must have been reached their destination for the purposes.

If Nepal is the hub in the north, where it is in the South?: As many as 2,000 skeletons and skulls are taken out every month through Nepal. While a sizable portion of these find their way to medical colleges and research labs in the West, the remaining — particularly the skulls — are supplied to Asian countries for use in occult rites.”The Asansol-Niyamatpur- Salanpur-Durgapur belt is notorious for this trade. Graveyards are regularly raided by professional grave diggers. The Vaishnavite burial grounds in the region are favourite targets. A few years ago, six bodies went missing from the Udaigarh Vaishnav graveyard, leading to a furore,” said a businessman who was a licenced exporter of skeletons till 1985, when the Centre imposed a ban. Soon after the ban, exporters and traders resorted to smuggling. Their main source of skeletons were unprotected burial grounds in the districts and villages. Before 1985, bodies were purchased from relatives of the dead and converted into skeletons before being exported. “There is a huge demand for skeletons and human bones in medical colleges and research labs in the West. Artificial bones are not very popular among teachers or students . Till 1985, India supplied 80% of bones. There was a vacuum after the ban. This has been put to use by smugglers,” a source revealed[7]. Smugglers operate from Kathmandu, Yangon, Patna, Kolkata and Varanasi. The ‘goods’ are stored in Burdwan , Asansol, Dhanbad, Rajgir , Katihar, Gaya, Bodh Gaya and Purnea. Kathmandu is the centre for the trade[8]. Therefore, from South India also, equally, they must have been regularly exported, but the details are kept secret and unknown. As pointed out, the details could be taken out, as the trade has been going on.

The St Joseph Hospices working according to Christian theology or law of this land or otherwise?: How the pastor “father” Thomas could have been so adopted, accustomed and habituated to such dreadful acts of dealing with dead bodies is shocking, frightening and terrifying. How his mind and feelings have been so hardened to be numbed and thus, made such acts routine. The persons involved in such acts also appear without any perturb or worry, as if they are attending to some normal routine activities. The scary, creepy and bloodcurdling surroundings of the vaults, the pits and others make one to shudder, as if they see some Hollywood horror-terror movies of dead bodies and zombies. Therefore, the psyches of these people have to be analyzed, as it appears abnormal, aberrant and crooked.  According to Christian belief, the dead bodies have to be preserved, so that they would be raised on the last day of judgment or the second coming of Jesus Christ. But the Christian priests involved have not cared about such fundamental doctrine. The holy doctrines of crucifixion, resurrection, ascension, etc, have been intimately associated and imbibed with any true Christian and believer. Thus, these activities could not have taken place against the christian theology, dogma and doctrines followed. As otherwise, they have to explain explicitly, what principles they followed without any care for human-beings and the law of this land by committing such heinous crimes, but scotfree for obvious reasons.

St Joseph -dead bodies they are decmposed-disposed

Why no action taken and the media and others have been so insensitive about the issues involved?: Having seen now both sides, from the affected, rescued and reported old people, the public and residents of the area, the officers of various visited groups, the media and the Christian representatives, can come to conclusion without any bias. The fact is that thousands have been dying there under suspicious circumstances. They are not keeping any account of the persons admitted, dead, cremated or buried and the left out disposed. The licence to run the old-age home, keeping such vaults, usage of them repeatedly without cleaning, and other details are lacking and not done also to satisfy the statutory and mandatory requirements and conditions. Having violated such provisions, no action has been taken for the last six years and now also. It is also intriguing to note that the sociologists, psychologists, social activists and others have been so insensitive, callous and thick-skinned with numbness, in spite of the news coming out. Their “secularism” could not be working here, just because, the Christians are involved. As human-beings are dealt with without sympathy violating law of this land, immediate action should be taken against them.

St Joseph Hospice: a place for dying or dead people, what has been happening to dead bodies? (1)

Saint Joseph, Paleswaram

Shocking news coming out about St Joseph Hospices: Nowadays, about pedophile crimes, sexploitation and such other news have been read, heard and discussed at, but, now, this is about death, dead bodies, skeletons and bones. About over 70 kilometres from Chennai city, the St Joseph’s Hospice sprawls across the arid village of Palaswaram in Kancheepuram district. The vast campus serves as a destitute home for men and women. It was started with the claim of taking care of dying men and women found at different places, brought there and keep them till they die. After death, their bodies are kept in concrete vaults. Shocking allegation against an NGO named St. Joseph’s Hospice have emerged, which include beating sick inmates and using their dead bodies for harvesting bones[1]. Some reports have also alleged that it is also involved in harvesting organs of its inmates and selling it to other countries[2]. The hospice, which calls itself a ‘Home for Dying Destitute’, was founded by Father R. V. Thomas in 2011. The same Christian pastor is also running similar hospices in Dindigul and Paleshwaram. A hospice is a Christian equivalent of an Ashram where sick and destitute are supposed to be taken care of.

Dead bodies smuggled -enquiry-Thomas

What they – Joseph Hospice- claim[3]: Their website claims as follows: “Our first Hospice situated at Mettur Gate[4], near Kodai Road, in Dindigul District was started in 2006 and has now 325 dying destitute of which 140 are women and 185 men. Every week there is an average of 7 persons who die here in human dignity. Till Jan 2016, more than 1900 people have so far died here in peace. At the same time, last 12 years , more than 8000 people have been healed and restored and have gone back to their places of choice. We started a second Hospice not far from Chingleput[5], only 90 minutes drive away from Chennai airport in 2011. 16 acres of land was donated by a kind soul where 500 patients from the cities of Chennai, Pondichery, Vellore etc., can be accommodated. Situated 16kms.close to Vedanthangal, a world famous bird sanctuary, the second Hospice is a sanctuary for ill and homeless destitute who otherwise die on the pavements and gutters, uncared, unloved and unmourned. A third, small Hospice at Tambaram[6] near the Chennai airport was started as a collection centre in December 2014 where only about 30 patients are accommodated. When the traffic is a bit calm, during the wee hours of the morning, we bring them to our bigger second Hospice in batches of 6 to 8 patients. We are looking forward to starting similar holding Hospices in the North Chennai area and the city of Pondichery. Our good news is that the Salesians of Chennai Province has come forward to give us a 3.75 acre plot of land with a building near Vellore[7]. We hope to start a 4th Hospice there in April 2016 for about 150 dying destitute. These Hospices and a rehab centre for the blind and handicapped are run by the Trust called,”Light for the Blind India”. The CEO is Fr.Thomas. We have started a fourth hospice at Vellore with the help of the Salesians of Chennai Province who gave us a 3.75 acre plot of land with a building.

Help-cries from ambulance and two old people found with dead body: Tension prevailed near Uthiramerur in Kancheepuram district on 20-02-2018 Tuesday after public intercepted the tempo van of an NGO ferrying two elderly persons and the dead body of a destitute and claimed that the NGO was up to illegal activities[8]. However, police and revenue authorities who reached the scene found that the van belonged to a home, registered with the government, who take care of elderly people and bury the dead bodies of the elderly destitute who die at Government hospitals[9]. The government action came a day after [21-02-2018] a van belonging to elder care centre was found carrying a dead body with bags of vegetables along with two aged persons, in Salaivakkam in Kancheepuram on Tuesday 20-02-2018, afternoon[10]. Sources said the officials advised the management of the hospices to adopt age-old burial process for disposing the bodies than concrete vaults[11]. But the elder care centre managers were not ready to accept it because they felt vault was more cost-effective. The officials began to question Father Thomas, founder of the St. Joseph hospice, and the other officials of the old age home which went on for five hours[12]. The managers of the home admitted that it was mistake to transport the body with the vegetables and two aged people. “We have done nothing wrong. Our motive is to give shelter to the people who are being left alone, and those who are mentally ill and the people affected with diseases. We will provide them everything that they need and make them feel home,” claimed a staff[13].

A multi-tier vault for storing corpses: Indian Express has given these details, “They were surprised to find that the hospice did not just take care of the destitute elderly, but also had a multi-tier vault for storing corpses[14]. The vaults appeared like bank lockers. After a certain number of years, the vaults were reused. While it is unclear if the hospice management obtained permission to build the vault, what raised concern among officials was the lack of monitoring on whose bodies were deposited there and how the remains were processed. While rules mandate that the remains in the vault be cleared only once in 13 years, local residents claimed the management had been clearing them every few months. A representative of the home said they were open to a probe”. But, nothing is known till date.

St Joseph ambulance- Polimer TV-3

News reports coming out based on videos etc: It has come under the scanner after a truck, dressed as an ambulance, was found to be ferrying a corpse, an old man and an old woman, along with vegetables, to the centre[16]. The incident came to light after a motorist traveling along the Salavakkam-Edayamputhur road heard the screams of an elderly woman, who called to him from inside the truck and asked him to save her[17]. Speaking to Thanthi TV, the elderly woman who was rescued, identified as Annamal from Tiruvallur district said that she had left her kin’s house after a fight with them, when she was picked up from Little Mount and brought to St Joseph’s Hospice’s Tambaram branch. “They took me away on Saturday or Sunday. I was in Little Mount. When I went inside, I saw that there were two dead bodies there. The other people who were there were very sick. After seeing that, I thought, I am well – why have they brought me here with the dead? I only wanted a hostel to stay, not an ashram like this,” Annamal said[18]. “I said, I don’t like it, I don’t like it, I don’t like it! I told them I won’t stay there. Every day I begged them, but I wasn’t allowed to go,” she added. The woman went on to say that she was examined by two doctors on Monday, who asked why she was being kept at the hospice when she was well.

Joint venture of the conclave on “Social media”: As some friends of Facebook informed about a meeting to be held at Mylapore and invited to come, our group had decided to attend and accordingly, we proceeded to Mylapore[1]. Indeed, the Rasika Ranjini Sabha has been constructed / reconstructed with modern look! At the entrance, two persons were sitting and asked us, whether we wanted to register. After filling up a paper with our names, phone nos, e-mail etc, we were given two plastic folders containing an issue of “Swarajya”, scrbbling pad and a pen, no details about the program or the organizers. Tamil Nadu Young Thinkers Forum (TNYTF) organized its 1st Social Media Conclave on 18 November 2017 at the Hall of Rasika Raanjini Sabha, 30/1, Sundareswarar Street, Mylapore in Chennai. The Tamil Nadu Young Thinkers Forum (TNYTF) organized it in association with the ARR Charitable Trust[2] with an aim to elevate the quality of public discourse in Tamil Nadu as well as the country and appraise social media trends in the state, citizen engagement in governance using social media, role of social media in enhancing quality of public discourse and the future of social media, followed by an open house. Invited Journalists, authors, bloggers and columnists were among the speakers lined up at the conclave. There was an announcement about it in “Swarajya Magazine” website[3]. When I just looked around after sitting, I could find only persons of elite group!

MAFA Pandian inagurated- 18-11-2017

Inauguration of the conclave: Ma Foi K Pandiarajan, (Minister for Tamil, Art & Culture, Archaeology and Museums, Government of Tamil Nadu) Said[4], “The Tamilnadu government will soon be introducing 1,000 new Tamil words every month to strengthen the language’s vocabulary. This will be implemented with the help of language experts in the State.” He was the chief guest at the first social media conclave of the Tamilnadu Young Thinkers’ Forum, conducted here today in association with ARR Charitable Trust. “The state of Tamil language in the international arena is not good. For example, even Google translate is not able to get the grammar correct when it comes to our mother tongue while it does its job fluently in other languages. The main reason for this, I believe, is the lack of constructive propagation. The language continues to be hard to imbibe for new learners…………As of now, Tamil stands in the 16th place worldwide while Hindustani stands in 10th position. So, to take the language forward, we have to simplify and propagate it through social media. We should make Tamil more inclusive to all.” Thus, he highlighted the pros and cons of the increasing role of social media in our lives, first tracing the evolution of print media to television to social media. He spoke of the crucial role of social media in the Chennai floods, Jallikattu protests, and Cyclone Vardah. He also noted that Tamil had slipped in its position in language usage on Internet platforms from No.2 to No.10 and urged the audience to restore its pre-eminent position.

In Afghanistan, there is no current in most of the places and hence there is no internet facilities: The panelists kept the audience of more than 250 active netizens keenly engaged with various topical issues of contemporary interest and current trends, particularly keeping the Tamil social media platforms in mind[5]. The figure is exaggerated, as only 100 would have come. Multi-faceted inputs were offered by all the speakers, including the distinguished guest of honor, Allah Mohammad Kakar, who is a member of Afghanistan Youth Parliament from Kabul. He said, “Tamil language and culture is indeed exceptional. We at Afghanistan telecast Tamil movies to create awareness about family bonding and to create cultural integrity. In Afghanistan, Tamil food is still longed for. As a country, we have been totally destroyed by wars. After every war, we build our country from scratch.” Mohammed also spoke about Afghanistan’s Internet reach and its trends on social media[6]. He gave data obtained from the capital, Kabul, as that is the safest place in Afganistan, as he claimed and tried to show that few women were also active in the Social media. In most of the other places, there is no internet facility is available, as there is no power!

Tamilnadu Young Thinkers Forum, 2017-Mafa Pandian, Allah Md kakkar

The first session: Panelists on Trends in Social Media in Tamil Nadu were :

  1. Ashokha Varshini – Journalist and Anchor, Thanthi TV.
  2. Shyam Sekhar – Entrepreneur and investment thinker
  3. Prasanna Viswanathan – CEO, Swarajya.
  4. Ashwin Kumar – UnReal Columnist

Tamilnadu Young Thinkers Forum, 2017-other speakers

Trending news, fake news etc- (11.01 to 11.12 am): Asoka Varshini started with “Trending news” as appearing in her phone, and she claimed that it was not matching with Tamilnadu. She pointed out that the trends are manufactured, sponsored, forced on youngsters using the expression, “You guys”. The fake news has to be tackled with the technology. The private companies work for their profits and therefore, they do not have concern for social welfare. Hence, the staff of these companies manipulaate accounts etc. Donald Trump’s twitter account was stopped by his staff for 11 minutes[7]. The Guardian reported[8], “A Twitter employee deactivated Donald Trump’s personal account on their last day of work, the company said on Thursday, likely meaning the action was deliberate. The move by the employee – who has not been named – meant that the president’s @realdonaldtrump account was down for 11 minutes.

Tamilnadu Young Thinkers Forum, 2017.first session

Mass movements are instigated for subversion (11.12 to 11.27 am): Prasanna Viswanathan claimed that Thamilnadu has been unique in the Social media, pointing out the following features:

  1. Leftist orientation is gaining in Tamilnadu, that is stunning and proving the bankruptcy of intelligentsia. The anti-Industry attitude is also alarming. The eco-fascism is exhibited in opposing neutrino project, hydrocarbon, etc.
  2. They tried to make Tamilnadu as “agitational ground” after the success of “jallikattu” movement. Thus, they want every issue to be turned out to be such movement.
  3. Unfortunately, conspiracy theory like “Illumaniti” working in Tamilnadu is sickening.
  4. By every issue, political subversion is tried to be brought.
  5. The misogynist attitude found in attacking Chinmayoi etc., proves the dangerous trend of ideology, targeting attacking one particular community.
  6. The Hinduphobia is also noted, under the guise of attacking one ideology, social group etc.

Unfortunately, the mainstream media has also aiding and abetting these trends.

Tamilnadu Young Thinkers Forum, 2017.audience view.2

The Social media could be made useful (11.28 to 1.39 pm): Shyam Sekar delved upon the following: The rise of “Social media” is based on the bankruptcy of ideology. It starts with funds of the capitalists, that is neither black nor white, but “grey”. TN politics has been OBC politics, but, it lacks political will. Had TN plugged the holes of pilferage, leakages etc., in Electricity, it would have excelled Gujarat. The TN Social media spread a lot of lies about GST, demonetization and other issues. It was Chidambaram who introduced “Corporate tax” to be paid minimum 20%, yet, the social media propaganda claims that the corporate pay no tax. The social media could be made useful by the following methods, instead of blaming each other:

  1. Friendship (learn from each other)
  2. Following (mutual issues)
  3. Fellowship (discussing confidential issues).

Like any other party, BJP is also OBC party and the politic trend would be same.

Then, the “emperor of satire” – Aswin Kumar spoke……………..that was not so impressive, as generalized one.

Thus, the  first panel on current trends in social media in Tamil Nadu drew attention to the sharp polarisation of Tamil Nadu social media users, the increasing use of social media by political parties and affiliates, and the agitation politics – a recent trend in Tamil Nadu that gets amplified by social media. The ubiquitous presence of memes in Tamil and the “going-viral” of such memes were talked about in this session.

Ezra Sargunam, Church planting, land grabbing, politics and communalization under the guise of secularization!

Ezra Sargunam, Church planting, land grabbing, politics and communalization under the guise of secularization!

ECI for church planting

The controversial Christian priest Ezra Shargunam and his land grabbing activities: In September 2017, when there was rumour about M. Karunanidhi, Ezra Sargunam gave interview to the media and certified that[1], “I met Karunanidhi, he is doing well….He looked at me……” It was surprise for many, as why a Christian priest should have done it, particularly, when Karunanidhi has been an atheist. Of course, Ezra’s role in political circles is considered as “broking”.  While Vaiko is criticized recently [this month, November 2017] for his “Christian” leanings and “crypto-Christian” activities, ironically, he himself dubbed Ezra Sargunam as “false-prophet” citing Bible[2]. He warned that people like him are tigers roaming with sheep’s skin. Thus, the role of Ezra has been intriguing on many accounts. Earlier in his book, he has openly recorded that there is nothing wrong in land grabbing[3]. That is whatever is done in the name of Jesus, it is allowed. Again, there have been court cases, involving him with land grabbing. In this context, what had happened 17 years ago in Gujarat, becomes important in the context.  Interestingly, the same Ezra Sargunam played a crucial role there. He was reportedly involved in a land grabbing case, where he tried to interfere and created “law and order problem.” As he had gone there as “the chairman of the Tamil Nadu Minority Commission,” the state authoties pointed out that he was out of jurisdiction and hence they could take action to arrest him for violations. Thus, he prepared to move bail to save his honour. The Gujarat Government also complained to the Government of Tamilnadu.

Ezra politics

Karunanidhi asked Ezra Sargunam to return, as he exceeded limits: The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, has asked the president of the Evangelical Society of India and chairman of the Tamil Nadu Minority Commission, Bishop Ezra Sargunam, to leave Gujarat and return home immediately, according to the Gujarat Minister of State for Home, Mr. Haren Pandya, here today [06-12-2000][4]. Mr. Pandya showed reporters a copy of the fax message sent by Mr. Karunanidhi to his Gujarat counterpart, Mr. Keshubhai Patel, urging the Bishop in Vyara hospital in Surat district, to return home[5]. The message also assured the Bishop that the issue of alleged attack on a church in Chhindia village of Vyara taluka, against which he launched an indefinite fast, could be taken up with an “appropriate authority” later. The Bishop was forcibly admitted to the Vyara Civil Hospital yesterday [05-12-2000] after his condition deteriorated.

Bishop Sundar Singh was commissioned as the new presiding Bishop of ECI.

Ezra was trying to instigate local Christians: The message, Mr. Pandya said, was in response to a request sent by the State Government pointing out that the Bishop was “trying to instigate” Christians in Chhindia village and creating a “law and order problem”. The Tamil Nadu Government was also informed that the chairman of its Minority Commission had “no jurisdiction” over Gujarat and had adopted a stance of non- cooperation with the authorities. Virtually blaming the Christians for the dispute over the church in the village, Mr. Pandya said the Government would take “stern action” against anyone found “instigating” people. It was a “deliberate scheme” of the Christians to “defame the BJP government in the State”, he claimed.

Bishop refused to leave causes unrest, The Tribune, 09-12-2000

Christian plot to grab the land of a tribal: Denying knowledge of the involvement of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in the incident of November 26 as alleged by the All-India Christian Council, the Minister said the land on which the “so- called church” was functioning actually belonged to Mr. Puniyabhai Ukadiabhai Kotwalia, a local tribal. Mr. Puniyabhai, who became a Christian some time ago, recently re-converted to Hinduism. On November 29, the Christian Council lodged a complaint with the Vyara police stating that a group of VHP activists “attacked the church” in Chhindia village on November 26 and “desecrated it”. Mr. Puniayabhai, meanwhile, accused Christian leaders of “forcibly entering” the “premises owned by him” and taking away the picture of a Hindu deity.

Karu asked Ezra Sargunam to return to TN, Dec.07, 2000 - The Hindu

Conversion trick to create communal tension: While the Council spokesman, Mr. Samson Christian, said the piece of land was jointly owned by seven persons who together handed it over to the local Christian community for building a church in 1996, Mr. Pandya claimed that according to government records, Mr. Puniyabhai was sole owner of the land and inherited it from his father. The “church” was actually a room in his residence which he had “allowed local Christians to use as a prayer hall,” Mr. Pandya said. Mr. Christian had accused the local police of working hand-in- glove with the VHP in attacking the church in the presence of senior government officials including the District Collector and the District Superintendent of Police. Mr. Pandya said the Revenue Department gave Mr. Puniyabhai ownership of the land in June, 1992, as he was cultivating it since 1975. Under the Tenancy Act, he had no authority to sell or re-allocate it to anyone else without the prior permission of the Government and there was no question of his giving the land for construction of a church. But after Mr. Puniyabhai became a Christian in 1995, one of the rooms was used by local Christians as a prayer hall. He re-converted to Hinduism six months ago and since then has refused permission for the room to be used as a church.

Bail granted to Ezra Sargunam, Dec.15, 2000 - The Hindu

Land grabbing Ezra’s style carried on in Gujarat: Contrary to Mr. Samson Christian’s claims, Mr. Pandya said a group of Christians forcibly entered the room on November 26 and removed the picture of a Hindu deity. On a complaint filed by Mr. Puniyabhai, the Vyara civil court issued a stay on December 1 against the use of the land by either sides and fixed the hearing on December 12. The issue could have been resolved earlier but for the adjournment sought twice on November 30 and December 4 by the local Christians on its hearing, Mr. Pandya claimed. He alleged that Bishop Sargunam went on an indefinite fast only after the civil court granted the stay. The Christian Council also filed a petition in the Gujarat High Court against the stay granted by the Vyara civil court. Mr. Pandya also refuted the Council’s claim that 200 Christians had migrated from the village after November 26. The Vyara social justice committee chairman along with some other officials visited the village and found that all the people were staying in their respective houses, he said. No migration had taken place as claimed by Mr. Christian, he stated and pointed out that in the village with a population of 1,500, over 75 per cent were Hindus and the rest Christians.

Local Court granted bail for Ezra, thus escaped from arrest[6]: The Vyara civil court today [14-12-2000] granted anticipatory bail to Bishop Ezra Sargunam, the national president of the Evangelical Church of India, but refused him permission to enter any place within its jurisdiction, which include Chhindia village in south Gujarat, where a church of his denomination was allegedly attacked on November 26, 2000. The Bishop, who is also the chairman of the Tamil Nadu Minority Commission, had filed the anticipatory bail following a criminal complaint filed against him and a few others by the “owner” of the piece of land on which the church stood, Mr. Punyabhai Kotwalia, for allegedly “trespassing” on his property[7]. The Bishop had launched an indefinite fast in front of the church on November 29 demanding restoration of the church, which the Christians claimed was desecrated during the attack and converted into a temple. The Vyara civil court, while granting a stay on December 1 on Mr Punyabhai’s petition that the land was his “personal property,” had also directed the Bishop to stay away from Vyara taluka. The Bishop, who is still here meeting with other Christian leaders, had made it clear that he would take a decision on the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi’s message to return to Chennai only “in consultation with the leaders of the secular forces.”

Ezra politics-land grabbing--church alliance-atheism

Ezra indulged in objectionable activities: The Gujarat Minister of State for Home, Mr. Haren Pandya, when asked about the Vyara civil court’s order, said the State Government would ensure that the court order was “strictly implemented” hinting that it would not hesitate to arrest the Bishop if he made any attempt to return to Vyara or Chhindia. The State Home Secretary, Dr V. V. Rama Subba Rao, has written to the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, informing him about the “objectionable activities” of the Bishop in the State. Like the Chief Minister, Mr. Keshubhai Patel, who wrote to his Tamil Nadu counterpart twice requesting him to recall the Bishop, Dr. Subba Rao has also requested the Chief Secretary to take immediate steps to ensure that the Bishop stopped “interfering” with the law and order situation in the State[8]. In fact, his refusal to leave, created tension in the area[9]. Meanwhile, the State Government has decided to make elaborate security arrangements in the south Gujarat districts to ensure peace during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. At a meeting of the district collectors and district superintendents of police of Surat, Bulsar, Navsari and Dangs districts convened here today by Mr. Pandya and Dr. Subba Rao, it was decided to deploy adequate number of state reserve police and anti-riot Rapid Action Force personnel in the four districts to assist the local police and home guards to maintain peace during the celebrations.

Ezra politics- Vijaya kanth

PTI reports from Surat: The sessions court today banned the entry of Bishops Ezra Sargunam and Fr. Raive Ishudas of Chennai into the Vyara sub- division, without the written permission from the court. According to the conditions imposed by the court on the Bishops, the orders would be applicable till the chargesheet was filed against them. The court allowed anticipatory bail applications by the Bishops and dismissed the criminal application filed by Shankarbhai Gamit of Vyara. The Vyara police was directed to enlarge the two Bishops on bail on their furnishing a solvent surity of Rs. 5000 with a personal bond for the like sum each in the event of their arrest in an offence registered by the Vyara police station.  The same news was also reproduced by the Catholic news agency it its own way[10]. “An Indian court has banned a Protestant bishop from entering the area of a disputed chapel in a ruling the bishop says was politically motivated to harass Christians….. Bishop Sargunam, vice chairman of the Minorities Commission of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, said he left Gujarat after state authorities refused to meet him…….. The Protestant bishop told UCA News that he had to leave the area because of the state government´s partisan approach toward Christians. Anti-Christian attacks in Gujarat are “State-sponsored vandalism,” he said. More than 100 attacks against Christians have been reported in Gujarat in the last two years.” Thus, the persecution myth went on in their own way[11].

V. Shanmuganathan: Was he a victim, scapegoat sacrificed for wrong calculations ? (3)

V. Shanmuganathan: Was he a victim, scapegoat sacrificed for wrong calculations ? (3)

Anti-BJP groups not properly identified, negotiated and satisfied: TUR leader Angela Rngad said while adding, “We want to show that the BJP’s anti people policies will not be tolerated.” Stating that the protest is also to show all that the BJP’s hate campaigns will not be accepted in the state, she alleged that the party, through the Ghar Wapsi and policies of grabbing of farmers’ lands, the make in India campaign are all efforts to enslave every citizens of country. Referring to the ban on beef and atrocities against the minority, Rngad accused the BJP of being a party that actually attacks the rights of people like attacking the lifestyle, food culture and habits and way of dressing. KNU general secretary S Diengdoh said that this indifferent attitude of the BJP against the minorities including Christians is totally undemocratic while adding that it is against the Constitution of India. HNPF president R Rani questioned why these issues have cropped up only after the BJP was voted to power. Here only, that the BJP had not properly understood the groups was revealed, to cite an example based on the media reports. He said, “We suspect that this is being instigated and we demand that the BJP central leadership respects all religious communities.” It is a futile exercise to have any negotiation with these separatist groups, as they have been carrying out their activities since independence supported by the US, Chinese and Pakistani forces with all facilities, where the BJP is not a match for them.

Shanmuganathan’s experiments with Christianity, Christians and Christmas (2015-16): His sudden praising of Christianity, Christians, their services were quite amusing, as he hid not have any experience in “inter religious dialogue”. Some of the Tamilnadu ideologists had gone there enjoying time, but, obviously misled them with their half-baked ideas and imagined details. Whenever, he visited Tamilnadu and Chennai, a coterie never allowed other friends known to him to approach him. This was openly revealed during the facilitation programme organized and Chennai. Because of his dual role here and there, he was rather confused with the inputs stuffed by the fellow-ideologists. The Church was so delighted to record that[1], “The Christmas celebration this year has got more meaningful since the head of the state the governor of Meghalaya Mr  V. Shanmuganathan himself attended  in the Christmas service  at Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Church, Shillong on 25th December, 2016”.  Of course, he had been so considerate with the Christians since 2015.  He hosted Christmas at Rajbhawan with all fanfare. He gave discourse from biblical narratives, just like a pastor / priest from the pulpit. One website[2] characteristically as “Meghalaya Governor, V. Shanmuganathan while sharing inspirational stories said that churches have shown compassion and dedication towards the service of mankind”. The Presbyterian Church was so happy, as he participated the services with Bible in his hands[3]. Whether, he was experimenting with the different denominations, or dialoging in theology or otherwise, only God knows, as some of the websites started disappearing[4].

Inaugurated and praised Mother Teresa (September 2016): Meghalaya hosted a 4-day film festival titled ‘Mother Teresa International Film Festival (MTIFF)’ based on the life and teachings of noble laureate – Mother Teresa from September 6 to 9, 2016 in Shillong[5]. Addressing the inaugural function, the Governor stated that Mother Teresa represents the message of love, peace, enduring strength, hope and service to the world at large[6]. Underlining that understanding the pain of others is no easy a task, the Governor stated that Mother Teresa understood the pain of acute poverty. “She served the destitute, lepers, abandoned children, old people, the poorest of the poor and the downtrodden. Because she understood their pain, she was a solace, a helping hand and a source of comfort to them” he further stated. Showing his admiration for Mother Teresa for identifying herself with her love for the Almighty, he said that in a world where people identify themselves by the power they hold, or the money they possess, what truly marks Mother Teresa’s greatness is her identification of herself with her love of God. Applauding the great works and selfless services of Mother Theresa’s followers he further stated that their work must extend to all places. In August, when there was a photo of Teresa was there in the Spiritual Fair pur up by ASI, a huge cry was made and it was removed. However, they might not be knowing abut this!

Opposition to ADSPA, Left mobilization and BJP governor in isolation: In a recent Order of the High Court of Meghalaya[7] dated 2.11.2015 passed in Writ Petition (C) No. 127 of 2015, the High Court of Meghalaya has made a suo motu suggestion to the Central Government for the imposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, in the Garo Hills area of Meghalaya[8]. “It is shocking and deeply disturbing that a draconian law like the AFSPA is being sought to be imposed through a judicial order. There have been protests against this order in the Garo Hills area and in Shillong. What follows is a statement which carries objections to this order endorsed by more than 60 concerned citizens, from various parts of India – some whom are well respected and accomplished individuals in their fields, like law, academia, journalism, films, bureaucracy and activism[9]. As usual in letter supporting the radicals signed by the eminent, elite and secularists appeared in the media. Thus, when Shanmuganathan came, it was not known as to whether he was understanding the problems and issues involved there in and around Meghalaya.

Tribal youth festivals etc., have been a trap for him?: Of late, he was moving with different tribal groups and participating in their festivals. He participated the Wangala festival. Wangala is the festival of the Achiks (Garos), the post harvest festival where the harvest reaped is celebrated with thanks giving to the Gods ‘Misi Saljong’ and ‘Mima Kiri Rokkime’, the Gods of the fields and the paddy[10]. For the Achiks (Garos) the agrarian activities is not only physical labour but a spiritual journey as well which culminates in joy at the Wangala Festival.  Thus, with joy in their hearts and sprint in their feet, they perform the Wangala Dance which is actually a synchronized movement of symbolic nature which co – ordinates with the drum beats. The Wangala dance is therefore a story of the Garos in rhythm. The word ‘wanna’ refers to dance and merry making and ‘gala’ refers to offering in thanksgiving. Thus, the word ‘Wangala’ means the dance of ‘Thanksgiving’[11]. Thus, he went on attending many tribal festivals[12]. He compared Wangala with Pongal. In any case, he could have restricted his program-attending agenda carefully. At every level, the intriguing point is who was the PA or advisor to him, when he was discharging his official duties. Definitely, that person must have been known to him or RSS person. Then, he must have gone into all details in the context of Meghalaya and NE complexities.

Was he a victim, scapegoat sacrificed for wrong calculations?: He has been a genuine worker without any selfishness. As already mentioned with his hard-work he has come up. Now, the media comes out with stories that “Shanmuganathan belongs to Saiva Pillamar community (a forward community)” and thus had / have difference with Brahmin-friends and so on[13]. This is mischievous, as RSSwalas never talked in terms of caste, in any context. Thus, the “Shanmuganathan-Ganesan” variance as raised by “The Wire”can be ignored in the context[14]. Then come the remarks of RSS media incharge – Sadagopan. “But the state unit of the RSS has a different take on this issue”, as noted by the Wire, picking from “The Hindu”, at least judging by their initial reaction to Shanmuganathan’s resignation[15]. “It is an unfortunate incident… A person occupying a high position should be doubly careful to avoid such allegations, as he represents an organisation such as the RSS and the BJP,” said N. Sadagopan, the sangh’s state media coordinator, in an interview to The Hindu[16]. His response has been in fact, unfortunate, intriguing, shocking and irresponsible too, as how he could have come out with such words. Instead of analyzing the issue, one should not try to show off himself indulging in such remarks. As explained above, the different complexities, intricacies and complications involved, Shanmuganathan has done excellent work, in spite of his health. He had an open heart surgery and in soite of such condition, he was performing his duties relentlessly. He has lamented many times that though he had many friends in Chennai, none visited him when he was admitted in the hospital for open-heart surgery. In fact, he pained that nonde came to sign the forms for the conduct of the operation. Of course, it went on well. In fact, he Unfortunately, as pointed out elsewhere, the Tamil and Tamilnadu friends have not analyzed the NE complex issues, Meghalya tribal politics, Congress-anti-national nexus acting against him and informed him. Perhaps, they have not been trained to understand, though, they have been making trips to NE under different banners like ABVP, Vidhya Bharati and so on. Therefore, the Sangh Parivar should assess, reassess and re-examine the involved complicated issues and political gameplans and respond accordingly. They should be trained in the NE affairs with national and international agendas, as they have many ramifications. As for as Shanmuganathan is concerned, his good deeds would liberate from his temporary problem. May God shower his blessings!

The complaint letter sent to the President of India: The five-page letter signed by 98 workers / nearly 100 employees of the Governor’s House in Shillong[1] – widely circulated on social media –  on Wednesday (25-01-2017)[2], lists a series of misdemeanours including sexual misconduct and “torture and humiliation” of officers and staff[3]. “From the time he has taken over, employees are going through severe humiliation, mental stress and torture,” the employees write. The 67-year-old was accused of hiring or posting only women in his staff and turning the Raj Bhavan into a place where “young ladies come and go at will with direct orders from the governor.” The letter said[4]: “His activities hurt the decorum and prestige of the Raj Bhavan as well as the sentiments of the Raj Bhavan employees who are very much attached to the Raj Bhavan, it becomes our concern. From the time he has taken over, the employees are going through severe humiliation, mental stress and torture.”  The 11 point-letter stated[5] the Governor has “appointed two public relations officers, a cook and a nurse on night duty, all of whom are women”. The staff alleged that the Governor “selected only girls” to work for him and shifted the male official private secretary to his secretariat[6].

shanmuganathan-megalya-governor-resigned-amit-shah-sealed-his-fateCircumstances forced him to resign on the Republic Day: The Governor has also been accused in recent media reports of sexually harassing a woman who had gone to him for the post of Public Relations Officer. Mr Shanmughanathan was appointed Governor of Meghalaya in 2015 by the central government. He is expected to fly to Delhi 27-01-2017. “Till now there are no statements from any women. Facts should be looked into before commenting,” Nalin Kohli, spokesperson of the ruling BJP, said. Protests by civil society groups erupted on the streets of Shillong yesterday as Republic Day was being celebrated. “The Governor should step down. We want impartial probe into sexual harassment in the governor’s house,” said Tarun Bharatiya, one of the protesters. Three aides of the Meghalaya Raj Bhavan were ssacked on Saturday (28-01-2017), an official said . The three officials — public relation officers Chinmoyee Deka and Emdorini Thangkhiew, and private secretary Saurav Pandey – were appointed during the former governor’s tenure[7]. “They were appointed on contractual basis and their jobs were co-terminus with the governor’s tenure. After his resignation, they were asked to quit,” said HM Sangpliang, the secretary to the governor[8].

v-shanmughanathan-high-land-post-24-01-2017Shanmuganathan has denied the allegations:  As per the media report, the victim alleged that the Governor had a personal interview with her on the night of December 8, 2016 for the post of public relations officer and made “inappropriate advances” after he personally called her to attend the interview[9].  What irked the victim was the alleged ‘unprofessional and unfriendly’ behaviour of the Governor. She was one of the seven candidates selected for the personal interview. When asked if he met the candidates separately or in a group, the Governor admitted that he met some candidates separately as well as in a group[10]. But he denied calling one of the candidates from a personal number and asking her to come after 6pm. “I wanted to meet them (the job aspirants) before finalising the candidates and they all came. Everyone was there for half an hour. I have got great respect for everyone. I have not done anything wrong,” he said.
Shanmuganathan also rebutted the allegations that he made physical overtures or inappropriately complemented the girl. “No it is not right… all these things are not right… we have selected only one person and some people were not selected and because they were not selected they should not say all these things,” the Governor said.
Though the victim has not filed any FIR, when contacted, DGP SB Singh told the media that the matter was referred to the Government and legal opinion is being sought.

vs-encouraging-different-women-grooupsShanmuganathan was encouraging different women groups: Women activists from nine organizations  had sought the State Governor’s intervention to ensure that the KHADC’s Village Administration Bill (VAB) 2015, which is awaiting his assent, is ‘gender-just’ and fulfils the rights of women as guaranteed by the Indian constitution. A delegation of women representatives from the nine organizations met Governor V Shanmuganathan on Tuesday (Jume 24, 2015) and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention on the issue[11]. “We request the Governor to intervene in this matter so as to ensure that the VAB 2015 does not become a law without ensuring that the Khasi-Jaintia women are considered as full members of the existing institutions of local self government at the village level,” the memorandum said. According to the memorandum, the KHAD (Village Administration) Bill 2015, passed by the KHADC both in its intent and drafting, suffers from a lack of clarity regarding the rights of women. The women groups further said that the VAB must ensure real devolution of power to Ki Khun Ki Hajar or the people at the village level besides a transparent and accountable democratic self-government that is structurally and financially independent. “This is unfortunate because both in the past and in the present day, practices in these traditional institutions have been varied and have evolved over time,” the memorandum said adding  “This means that in some areas women attend the dorbar meetings while in others, they are given representation in the executive body.” The women groups also opposed section 2(18), Section 6 and section 8 of the Bill that denies women their rights as full members of the Dorbar and demand that amendments be made before the Bill becomes a law. The Bill is designed without much thought to the governance issues at the village level. It does not clearly lay out the lines of responsibility, institutional structures or for that matter even systems of accountability,” the memorandum said[12]. It is not known as to BJP or the appointed Governor knew the nuances of the demands that were made on the lines of other groups like TUR or RAIOT.

tur-beef-and-bjpVS’s dialogue with the radical groups failed: Shanmuganathan was having dialogue with different radical, extreme and seperatist groups after resuming office on May 12, 2015. Who advised him to do so was not clear, however, some overenthusiatic Sanghparivar ideologists without any proper understanding of Northeast politics, anti-national activities, seperatist forces operating under different banners etc., had urged him to have dialogue with them. The first visit of BJP national president Amit Shah to Shillong on Wednesday (April 22, 2015) was greeted with a mixed bag of the HNLC sponsored 12-hours bandh and a ‘beef party’ with placards mocking him sprinkled with songs, dance and music organized by Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) to protest against what it has termed as the BJP’s ‘hate campaign’[13]. TUR organized the beef party which was held about 10 meters away from BJP’s office in Lachumiere on Wednesday[14]. The Hynniewtrep National People’s Front (HNPF) and Khasi National Union (KNU) members were also seen taking part in the TUR’s public forum[15]. Heavy security was deployed in the vicinity and policemen had a harrowing time stopping those who attempted to take a protest march to the State’s Conventional Hall, where Shah addressed party members[16]. TUR and the other NGO members intended to throw a beef party in front of the Convention Hall to protest against the BJP promotion of a ban on beef and its alleged atrocities on minorities and Christians. “We are here to protest the coming of Amit Shah as he ‘symbolizes’ the BJP.” Why BJP alone is targeted by the radical groups is intriguing, when Congress has been accepted there.

V. Shanmuganathan: What went wrong with him and Sangh Parivar? (1)

Who is Shanmuganathan in Tamil Nadu politics and how did he rise to occupy a gubernatorial post?: The 67-year-old politician, a bachelor, hails from an agricultural family of modest means in Nagore, Nagapattinam district[1]. After graduating with an MA in political science, he became a full time RSS pracharak in 1969.  He rose steadily in the organisation and was the state RSS secretary from 1985 to 1995[2]. It was during his tenure as state secretary that the RSS headquarters in Chennai was razed to the ground on August 8, 1993 in a terrorist bombing that left scores of people killed and injured[3]. Old timers say he vowed on that day to build a new office within a year and came good on his promise. “It was difficult in those days as the BJP was in the opposition in Delhi and fundraising – especially for states like Tamil Nadu – was not at all in the radar of those who were in charge of budgetary allocations” says a senior BJP leader. In 1999, when the BJP-led NDA government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee was in power in Delhi, Shanmuganathan was drafted to the BJP and sent to the capital as additional secretary of the party’s parliamentary office[4]. During his time in the national capital, he struck up a close relationship with Narendra Modi, an RSS export to the BJP who became chief minister of Gujarat in 2001[5]. According to BJP leaders, Modi appreciated the fact that Shanmuganathan used to write positively about the state of affairs in Gujarat, especially after the 2002 riots, openly praise Modi’s ‘achievements’. In May 2015, Modi appointed him governor of Meghalaya.

on-26-january-cswo-and-thma-u-rangli-tur-held-a-demonstration-outside-the-shillong-raj-bhavan-photo-courtesy-angela-rangad-thma-u-rangliEnjoying life Rajbhawan staff blaming the Governor joining hands with the protesters: Shanmuganathan’s name first came in to the limelight when former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam died in Shillong on July 27, 2015 while addressing students at a university. Shanmuganathan claimed he was with him as governor of the state but later it emerged Shanmuganathan was nowhere on the scene when Kalam collapsed and was taken to hospital. “In reality, he was sleeping in his bedroom and [it was] only after the call from the Prime Minister [that he ran] to Bethany Hospital, Shillong, although, he was advised to visit Kalam” earlier, the Economic Times quoted one of his staff members as saying[6].  Actually, the Rajbhawan staff reportedly alleged that he was in the habit of telling lies, in the context of the present controversy[7]. All these prove that the staff, protesters and complainants were expecting an opportunity to hit him below the belt. Here, the media (Economic Times to The Wire) purposely carried the non-issue matter clubbing with the current issue, sensationalizing. “The Quint” had gone to the extreme of dubbing, “RSS Pracharak to Alleged ‘Playboy’: The Fall of Meghalaya Governor” it its caption[8]. Thus, the media attack-campaign can also be noted, that too, at a cheap level.

activists-holding-protests-in-shillong-demanding-resignation-of-v-shanmuganthan-photo-andrew-lyndem-facebookThe background of V. Shanmauganathan and his Governorship: Facing sexual harassment charges, Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmuganathan,  former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ‘pracharak’, who was also in-charge of Arunachal Pradesh, on Thursday night (26-01-2017) resigned after a section of Raj Bhavan employees demanded his removal for “seriously compromising” the dignity of the gubernatorial office. Definitely, this news was suppressed by the groups of all ideologists for obvious reasons, as he has not been of that nature to be involved in controversies. Hailing from Thanjavur, he has been a post-graduate and an M.Phil in Political Science, and received the Madras University’s prestigious Gold Medal from its well-known Vice Chancellor T P Meenakshi Sundarnar.  Started working for RSS, he has been a good friend of lakhs and could remember them by name. He has been soft-spoken and friendly with all. He shifted to Delhi working for the Sangh-parivar organizations and then inducted into BJP “Think-tank”. Because of his hard work, political acumen and strategic ideas, he played a crucial role for BJP and elevated to Governorship in 2015. As BJP was planning to negotiate with the anti-national, seperatist and other groups of North-East, it wanted to maken them to mainstream with the factors of culture, tradition, heritage and civilization. The European, American and Chinese experts, researchers and propagandists have been brainwashed them as “non-Indians”, they had separate identity different from India and so on through literature, propagandist materials and physical ideological harassments. He had to face them under very hostile, demure and confronting conditions with suspicion working in all speeches, actions and interactions.

gov-in-out-meghalaya-controversyCongress versus BJP in Meghalaya: To some extent, the anti-RSS, anti-BJP and such categories also knew why he was posted there. Dr Mukul Sangma of Congress has been CM since April 2010 and the Congress was not happy with his appointment as Governor. Actually, there was proposal that Purno Agitok Sangma might be appointed as Governor, but, he was not done and unfortunately he died on March 4, 2016. Mukul Sangma in May 2014 itself accused NPP candidate and former chief minister P A Sangma of being “an agent of BJP” and contesting Lok Sabha elections to “propagate the message of RSS” adding that[9], “He (P A Sangma) is contesting the elections on an NPP ticket to propagate the message of RSS. Perhaps, a wolf in sheep’s clothing.” As Sangma was with Congress and moved towards BJP when he contested against Pranab Mukherjee, the daggers were drawn already. His strong worded outburst proved that he knew the BJP gameplan targeted against him[10]. In May 2016, Conrad Sangma, son of PA Sangma won the by-elections at the Tura Lok Sabha Constituency defeating Dikkanchi D Shira, wife of Mukul Sangma, the CM[11].  The BJP supported and campaigned for Conrad widening his influence[12]. This infuriated the husband CM, as father was dead, but his son to become a political competitor. It may be noted that in May 2016 only, the plan to target Shanmuganathan was hatched through the recruitment involving women.

full-text-pof-the-100-signed-complaint-letter-addressed-to-pm-headlineMolestation charges against V. Shanmughanathan: As Keshari Nath Tripathi was shifted to West Bengal as Governor, he became Governor in May 2015. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said earlier in the day said that he was waiting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Home Ministry to take a call. Obviously, he did not want to add more heat to the boiling controversy. Nearly 100 Raj Bhavan staff here petitioned President Pranab Mukherjee, the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh seeking their intervention to remove the Governor and restore the “dignity of Raj Bhavan”. Thus, the media has already decided. They alleged that[13] Mr. Shanmuganathan had “seriously compromised the dignity of the Raj Bhavan and made it a ‘young ladies club’. “It has become a place where young ladies come and go at will on direct orders of the Governor… Many of them have direct access to his bedroom.” Thus, media pointing to the “bed room”, though, the woman accused him of only alleged “molestation”. Mr. Shanmuganathan, who took over as the Governor of Meghalaya in May 2015, on Thursday attended a Republic Day celebration in Arunachal Pradesh, whose additional charge he holds since November 2015 last following the removal of Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa.

violence-against-women-bogey-vs-by-turCSWO, TUR and RAIOT – the radical, separatist and anti-national forces acting against him:  He was moving with various organizations and groups in his official capacity as Governor of two important NE states, but, he was definitely not briefed properly about their backgrounds. He was encouraging all to come to him and discuss with him all sorts of issues. The Thma u Rangli Juki also known as TUR has been spearheading some sort of “self-determination” struggle through various issues like wages, human rights, imposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, beef and so on. Women activists had begun a signature campaign here seeking Shanmuganathan’s removal[14]. The campaign, spearheaded by women-led Civil Society Women Organisation (CSWO) and Thma u Rangli Kuki (TUR), was launched following reports of inappropriate behaviour by the Governor Shamuganathan[15]. A woman job aspirant had also accused the Governor of making advances when she was appeared for an interview at the Raj Bhavan[16]. Thus, the dialoguers have turned against him with daggers. It is a crude joke that the Sangh-parivar did not know anything about this or the newly elected MP also did not care for him.

How BJP has gone in the Congress way to bend the law citing Shah Bano and taking ordinance route to Jallikkattu!

January 21, 2017

How BJP has gone in the Congress way to bend the law citing Shah Bano and taking ordinance route to Jallikkattu!

Environment, Animal Husbandry department of Agriculture Ministry, Law and finally Home – ministries engaded to clear the Ordinance (19 / 20-01-2016): The sport, which goes back to the Tamil classical period, was banned following a Supreme Court order in May 2014, but spontaneous protests in Chennai have thrust the issue into limelight and sent Tamil Nadu CM O. Pannerselvam rushing to Delhi to seek an ordinance to overturn the ban[1]. In December, 2016 the court had reserved its judgment on a clutch of petitions that challenged the central government’s notification in January 2016 allowing bulls to be used in JallikattuAs an interim order, a bench led by Justice Misra had on January 13, 2016, stayed the Centre’s notification, due to which the apex court’s original order of 2014 banning Jallikattu is still in force. [2]. How all these processes took place, why the involved kept quite, delayed or played safe and all are debated again and again. Later in the evening of 20-01-2017, the Centre cleared the final legal hurdles in holding Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu over the weekend by approving the state’s draft Ordinance. The draft Ordinance, which will add a state-specific exception in the 1960 Act, passed through four ministries during the day — Environment, Animal Husbandry department of Agriculture Ministry, Law and finally Home — receiving consent from each within hours. Again, it proved the hasty, urgency and injudicious act to settle the issue. In its comments on the draft, the Environment Ministry, which administers the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, is learnt to have taken the view that Jallikattu had to be viewed in its cultural context, and that a decision on banning the sport could not be purely legal in nature. The last nod had to be given by the Ministry of Home.

ops-modi-jallikattuNow, it is clear that the issue is political: The final clearance of the Ordinance by the Home Ministry came just a day after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to find a legal solution to the issue. Panneerselvam postponed his return to Chennai on Thursday (19-01-2017) and stayed put in the capital till Friday (20-01-2017) morning as his government prepared the draft Ordinance and handed it to the Centre. Top Tamil Nadu officials made the rounds of different ministries to hold consultations and decide the final language of the Ordinance that will put bulls on the list of performing animals in the state. A group of MPs from the state, led by Lok Sabha deputy Speaker M. Thambidurai, also met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave to press for the Ordinance. Whether the AIADMK was playing its internal politics or otherwise, the gameplan involved was exposed. With the Centre drawing flak, BJP sought to project that its government was actively engaged in resolving the issue[3].

The anti-Modi placards, sloganeering etc., are inexplicable: It is evident that sizable crowd of the “Jallikkattu” protesters were not students, but members of the radical groups like ma.ka.i.ka and its associated organizations. All the fringe Communist  clusters also joined. The Muslim presence could be noted. Thus, the anti-Modi placards, sloganeering and shoutings appeared intriguing in the context. That too, several placards carried very vulgar, indecent and unparliamentary words and expressions. Why, how and for what purposes, they used, only, they have to explain. But, definitely, such aberration marred their cultural claims made on the civilization, heritage and tradition in the name of Tamil, Tamils and Tamilnadu. The separatist sloganeering also exposed the involvement of fringe elements. Asian Age reported that[4], “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rejection of the state’s demand for a Central ordinance on jallikattu has triggered widespread anger in Tamil Nadu”. Residents geared up for massive protests on Friday (20-01-2017), with all sections of people joining students and youth fighting to save its traditional sport and preserve Tamil culture. Furious jallikattu protesters widened the canvass of the protests to include all issues in which the state’s rights were trampled. One of the students, Senthilnathan, who had gathered at the Marina asked, “If Narendra Modi is so concerned about respecting the Supreme Court, why had he opposed the apex court’s verdict to form the Cauvery Management Board?”.

anti-modi-slohaneering-in-jallikattu-demo-at-marina-whyAnti-national slogans were also raised: Protesting Tamil youth vowed to return the Aadhaar cards as a sign of declaration that they are no more the citizens of India. The protesters also targeted the railways blocking the trains in several parts of the state. Traders associations announced a total shutdown on Friday and cinema theatres would remain closed to express support the agitations. The Marina continued to be the epicentre of agitations for Tamil pride with the gathering of youth reaching about 90,000 for a stretch of about three kilometre on Thursday (19-01-2017) evening. The sound of waves were drowned by slogan shouting and drum beating youth, who supported jallikattu and demanded a ban on Peta, which was instrumental for jallikattu ban. There were hundreds of protests throughout the city, besides the agitations in every district and taluk of Tamil Nadu. The southern districts continued to vibrate with jallikattu protests centred around the historic city of Madurai. Besides boys and girls, children and working and housewives too joined the agitations throughout Tamil Nadu, voicing their anger against the unjust treatment to Tamil Nadu on a range of issues from the massacre of Sri Lankan Tamils to the non-formation of Cauvery Management Board[5].

anti-modi-demo-2017Chennai had two faces in the “Jallikkatu” shows and bandhs: On 20-01-2017, the worst sufferers had been the office goers, regular teavellers and some students who attend private professional institutions. Autos and call taxis kept off the roads even as few government buses plied on the roads with improper announcement[6]. That the Banking operations took a hit with workers taking part in protests and Employees of various IT companies held placards and banners with slogans against NGO People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) etc., appeared artificial, perhaps, they  too wanted publicity or showed them to be supporting for the cause with the vested interests. The “Jallikkattu” protesters purposely occupied the most-crowded junctions, bus-stands and such other places, just to get the attention of others. This only created nuisance at morning and evening hours. Many inter and intra-state trains were fully and partially cancelled while some others were diverted. The suburban EMU services ran late. In Chennai, all roads led to Marina beach with men and women, clad in black, besides children joining the protest that has transcended political and other differences. Though, the schools and colleges did not function, as leave was given to them, the office goers and regular travellers of buses and trains suffered heavily and the autos fleeced them as usual taking the opportunity.

Dhulagarh communal riots: Nothing happened, after all, it was a “local issue” – now everything settled – – why Dhulagarh riots have been communalized, secularized and neutralized! (3)

Dhulagarh communal riots: Nothing happened, after all, it was a “local issue” – now everything settled – – why Dhulagarh riots have been communalized, secularized and neutralized! (3)

TIMES NOW Report From Dhulagarh (December 23, 2016)[1]: For the past one week (13-12-2015 to 20-12-2016), a small town in Howrah, West Bengal has been simmering, boiling and burning. For the past seven days, the people of Dhulagarh have been facing unthinkable hardships – causing many to flee their homes. It all began on December 12, 2016 tension erupted in Dhulagarh when two groups reportedly clashed as a procession was brought out in the area last week. The groups hurled bombs at each other, when houses in Dhulagarh were attacked by an angry mob that hurled bombs and looted and torched people’s homes after they were not allowed to carry out a the procession. So the reportedly attacked groups hurled bombs on each other, however, the homes were targeted, as the processionists had no houses there! How then, the processionists plan to come there with bombs, where houses were there and the people were also there with bombs, so that they could hurl against them? Here, who took out the procession is not mentioned on the occasion of “Miladu Nabi”!

dulagarh-14-12-2016-rioters-in-action-mamta-nothing-happenedSo, Surojit Khara was bold enough to be there, when bombs were hurled and his house was burnt down: TIMES NOW spoke to one resident of a colony in Dhulagarh that was ransacked and torched.  “That day was normal, just like any other day. Some of my neighbours were running. I was thinking whether something was happening. Nobody was ready to talk about it. Then a hoard of people arrived, and started hurling bombs. They looted us and set our houses on fire,” said 28 year old Surojit Khara, who stands as the sole guard of his house – the others have fled the area. “My house, shops were set on fire. This entire lane was set on fire. The temple nearby was attacked with at least 25 bombs. This went on for 3-4 hours,” Khara stated. Frantic calls were reportedly made to the police, who turned up around three to four hours later. The police had to use tear gas to bring the situation under control, reports add. The residents however claim that no action was initiated by the cops even as the violence raged on[2].

dulagarh-14-12-2016-mamta-prays-for-muslimsFirst, it was reported that the Miladi Nabi processionist were Muslims and the targeted were Hindus: On 23rd December, the Times-Now could not tell that the processionist were Muslims. On 31st December, Daily Mail and India Today could identify that the processioners were Muslims and the people who were attacked by them were Hindus. Thus, the sufferings of the Hindus by the Muslim rioters have been brought out by Minhaz Merchant and Insrajit Kundu in “Daily Mail”[3]. Though, the State government announced holiday on 12-12-2016, on the pretext of the Miladu-Nabi procession, the Muslims carried out a rally cum procession, particularly on the auspicious day of “Margashirsha purnia” on 13-12-2015[4].  Knowingly, that particular area, Hindus was performing their celebrations, how the police allowed the procession is intriguing. Any careful or secular police officer would have prevented it, but, it was not done. When they were playing songs in high pitch, after the request of the Hindus, they could have reduced the volume, had they really wanted t respect the sentiments of their Hindu-brethren, but, they did not do. The riot started on 13-12-2016 and continued on 14-12-2016[5].  In fact, as, nowadays, it is common that Police used to videograph entire procession-proceedings, the could easily fix who started provocation leading to riot. Even, if riot started, they must have stopped it. But, what happened was different.

dulagarh-14-12-2016-rioters-in-action-3“Pakistan Zindabad” – would not have been shouted by the Hindus of Dhulagarh: The Hindus had to run to save their lives, leaving their houses and shops with all their belongings. At that time only, the rioters looted, poured petrol and kersine and burnt down. All valuables, cash and other things were carried away. Crude bombs were thrown to terrorize them and reducing their belongings to ashes[6]. The local police remained inactive while the mobs resorted to loot and arson. In one place the police arrived on the spot after the mobs had left. In another they ordered the residents to leave within two minutes and then watched on as the mobs looted and ransacked the house[7]. In yet another, the police came on time but they themselves fled when the mob came[8]. Just adjacent to the Manna household on Banerjee para lives the Mondal’s. Maitri Mondal, a mother of two says she heard chants of “Pakistan Zindabad” as the violent mob entered her bedroom and set it ablaze[9].  Thus, the souting of “Pakistan Zindabad” is intriguing to show their sickening mentality. Dilip Khanra was among many who had locked themselves up inside a room when the mob was nearing the village, pelting crude bombs one after another. “When the police came, we were told to leave our houses in two minutes! They didn’t even stop the mob from vandalizing our homes. They kept looting and burning as the police stood as silent spectators,” he says[10]. Again this proves the role of police in “running the riot”.

dulagarh-14-12-2016-zee-tvTaking strict action against Dhulagarh rioters & compensating: The Governor ordered the DGP to submit a report on the riots and that brought pressure on the government[11]. Meanwhile, top officials at the state home department said SP Howrah (Rural) Sabyasachi Raman Mishra was transferred in the wake of violence in less than a fortnight of his appointment[12]. The West Bengal government today said it had taken strict actions against those involved in the Dhulagarh riots in Howrah district and also started compensating the affected[13]. Rs 30,000/- was announced for the families who lost their houses burnt, but, they told that the compensation was meagre, as they lost everything in their house including money and day-to-day usage articles. A top official at the state secretariat said the government has already started compensating the families affected by the violence which rocked the district earlier this month. “Families in Dhulagarh which have been affected will be compensated. We have also decided to rebuild the houses damaged during the riots,” the officials said on 28-12-2016. Asked if persons involved in the riots were booked, the official said, “The state government has already taken strict action in the matter and arrests have been made… Law will take its own course.” Sources in the district police said people are wary of returning to their homes and thus have to remain homeless, barely 20 km from the state secretariat[14].

secularized-and-neutralized-as-if-nothing-happened-dhulagarh-riotsSecularization of riots, communalism and historiography – is it Marxist or Mamta way?: How Dhulagarh riots have been secularized has been explained above. How “secularism” discourse is used always against “communalism”, where, the former is linked with “Islamism” and the latter with “Hinduism”, reportedly followed by the “Sangj Parivar”. This has been the topic of the seminar held at Thiruvanathapuram by the IHC-experts and a part of IHC, as coincided, decided and attended by the elite, eminent and emeritus historians like Romila Thapar and also Marxist CM-politician Prannayi Vijayan. Last year, there was a coincidence that the Malda riots started just after the IHC session held there. But, how the Dhulagarh riots were completed, and the IHC started with “Secularism” seminar. However, much of secular discourse was carried on Mamta there the TMC-CM, just like Rolima Thapar. Now both are over and we have to wait and see as to Thiruvanathapuram, i.e, Kerala would go in the “Malda way” or “Mata way”, as Mamta appears to have donned the “Marxist garb”!
