Coronavirus Update: the 54-yr-old man with no travel history dies of Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu: Is such myth created that only the persons with foreign travel records or going aboard and coming back to India alone would have Covid-18 and others would not have. The man, who was the 12th patient to test positive in the state, which has 18 confirmed COVID-19 cases so far, had comorbid conditions like “uncontrollable diabetes and hypertension” and COPD [Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease][1]. The 54-year-old man had a medical history of prolonged illness with steroid-dependent COPD, uncontrolled diabetes with hypertension, says Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar[2]. Thus, the media went on publishing almost the same stuff without giving the background of the victim, because, none would get such serious disease, by sitting in Madurai far away from the Covid-19 or Carona virus spreading source-countries. It is evident that the state government tried to hide the facts by dubbing it as death not due to Corona virus or COVID-19.

Silent burial for Madurai victim The Hindu 26-03-2020

The victim was a construction contractor and the places of his regular visits including the mosque: Madurai Collector TG Vinay told Express that[3], “The patient, an employee of a construction company, was not a regular visitor to the construction site. However, he did go to the office. The places of his regular visits including the mosque, private hotel and the office have been disinfected by the corporation workers.” Without mentioning his name and other details, these details are given. The patient was rushed to a private hospital on 21-03-2020, Saturday with symptoms of acute respiratory illness. Doctors suspected viral pneumonia and he was tested for H1N1 (swine flu) before being shifted to GRH. On Sunday, 22-03-2020, when the test for H1N1 came negative, he was then tested for COVID-19. Unfortunately, the result this time was positive[4]. Yes, it was “unfortunate,” but, he could have informed the authorities immediately.

The victim had been with the Thailand preachers: The man had attended a wedding reception on March 9 at a city hotel, which also accommodated tourists from Thailand and Indonesia[5]. Though they have been Muslims, who have come for religious, propagandist and conversion purposes, but, on a tourist visa to circumvent the law of this land and as well as to avoid any controversy arising thereof. On March 13, the patient organised a religious meeting with preachers from Thailand at an Anna Nagar mosque, to which he was a regular visitor. Sources at the Madurai health department told Express that the group had been visiting the city as part of a tour of religious places.[6] Officials said the patient came in contact with the group when they visited a private lodge in the city on March 12 and 13. Officials said the group arrived at Madurai airport on March 12 and visited several mosques in the city. As a result, at least 60 persons had been placed under home quarantine.

16 foreigners came to Kanchipuram to spread Islam, Makkal Kural, 26-03-2020

From Erode to Madurai how the Corona virus was spread by the foreign missionaries: Two of them [the Thailand preachers] had tested positive and have been admitted to IRT, Perundurai[7]. Within hours of the death, the last rites of the 54-year-old man were completed before the break of the dawn after the body was handed over to the kin[8]. The body was shifted directly to the burial ground around 3.30am after the authorities completed hospital procedures[9]. The body was alighted from the hearse van and kept at the ground for an hour until a pit was dug. There were only four people present during final rites — his wife, son and two brothers. A team from Madhichiyam police station, that had accompanied the body, was also present[10]. No medical team or sanitation officers were present during the burial, which was completed by 5am. “The last rites were completed with very few family members and a representative from the local Jamath. Everything was completed according to the procedure,” the official said. A top district official told DH that the man was buried according to the standard operation procedure (SOP) laid out by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Indonesians carona affected, Ilaiyankudi, Tamil Hindu 26-03-2020

Two groups must have visited Tamil Nadu with specific agenda: From the Tamil and English media, the following details are gathered and arranged chronologically: The foreign Islamic preachers visited the mosques as follows:

12-03-2020

13-03-2020 to 15-03-2020

16-03-2020 to 18-03-2020

19-03-2020 to 21-03-2020

22-03-2020

Suramangalam, Rahmat Nagar mosque

Chevvaippettai, Milk market mosque

Ayyampettai, Sheikd Omar mosque

Sanyasikundu, Bhukariya mosque

Jamat-ul-Firdhosh mosque

So after declaring the danger of COVID-19, these preachers were roaming from mosque to mosque indulging in religious activities as the media report variously. Evidently, the mosque authorities have not informed the concerned authorities about the visit, sojourn and activities of the Islamic preachers.

The other sojourn dates are given as follows: February 26th, 2020, four couple each of 16 Indonesians and Malaysians came to New Delhi Dabliq Jamat. They visited Kanchipuram mosques.  Then, they sojourned to many mosques situated in the towns and villages as follows:

06-03-2020 to 08-03-2020

08-03-2020 to 10-03-2020

10-03-2020 to 12-03-2020

12-03-2020 to 14-03-2020

14-03-2020 to 16-03-2020

16-03-2020 to 20-03-2020

20-03-2020 to 23-03-2020

Madurai

Ramanathapuram

Ervadi

Vallakulam

Oppilan

Kizhaslvanur

theraveli

They had gone to each and every mosque and preached about prayer and other methods. As the two sets of dates and places differ, it is evident that two different groups must have come – one from Thailand and another from Indonesia with a specific agenda. And te local mosques must have well been aware of the program in advance, as otherwise, they could not have gone there on dates as noted above.

Sultanpet, Erode, The Hindu photo

Readers, the general public and others might not understand the bias: It can easily be noted that the news reportings have been impartial, biased and suppressing facts. They have been very meticulous to record that according to the doctor, minister, report etc., without going into the details. Otherwise, they claim themselves as “investigative” journalists probing into every aspect and they know everything. But, here, they do now who would be going to mosque or not. They do not know the name of the person died with Corona virus or  COVID-19. Why the Islamic preachers from Thailand and Indonesia came, why they visited mosques, why the mosques are getting infected and they disinfected………nothing is known to them. They know only what the TN government officials said, Minister tweeted and so on. Here, such bias has been exhibited only by them and the ordinary readers did not know, till he mosques were / are disinfected.

Erode Sultanpettai,GOOGLE, 24-03-2020

Do the Islamic preachers and Indian counterparts have any agenda behind their secret sojourns?: After reading the reports, it is surprising to note as to why the Islamic preaches took such risky sojourn making themselves as prey to the COVID-19 and travelled parts of Tamil Nadu. And also why the invitees and sponsors have dared to accommodate them and carried on their activities. Though, none could have any prejudice against the Muslims, because of the past experience, naturally, a reasonable doubt arises as to whether such daring exercise could be part of their new method of jihad. In fact, already, there have been mentionings of “Corona Jihad” and so on. As the martyrdom and saheed-doms have been unique in Islam, the suicide bombers have already been in action killing many people and damaging properties. Then, suicide car bombers and plane bombers have also executed their attacks resulting in 26/11, and so on in different parts of the world. Therefore, the sane elements of Islam should prevent such new creed is not nurtured, developed and engaged in such destruction of humanity, as already, the COVID-19 has been in action. Let us not the fanatics and fundamentalist join to wipe out the earth. Let all believers pray to GOD to save the earth with the existing humanity.

GOI order to ban seminar, conference etc March 2020

The Islamic congregations that went on in Tamil Nadu with Thailand and Indonesian clergy: The first death of COVID-19 or Corona virus-infected person on 25-03-2020 has raised many questions, because of the way, it has been / being reported through media even today. Now, it is a fact that Islamic preachers that have come to India from Thailand and Indonesia have been infected with COVID-19. They have entered India as “tourist” with “tourist visas.” As per the reports, it is known that the two groups landed at the New Delhi in the first week of February and March 2020 respectively. That they had gone to local “Dabliq centre” and then proceeded to their invited places is implied with their movements and few reports. From New Delhi, they reached Chennai either by flight or Train. From there, they had reached their invited places by train and as well as by private vehicle. That they had busy schedules of visiting many mosques, preaching and staying prove that their visits have been well-known and arranged. The GOI issued a circular No.PS/AMS/SJH/2020 dated 09-03-2020, warning that “In wake of COVID-19 outbreak going on in the country, all the functions including seminars, workshops, conferences are to be cancelled. This is for urgency and necessary compliance.” So, all the organizations, institutions and others who arrange such gatherings, where, more than 50 / 100 people assemble must have cancelled considering the prevailing conditions. But, it is evident that the visiting groups carried on their activities and their hosts or sponsors accommodated them at the mosques and provided all facilities to preach and propagate Islam.

23-03-2020 tested positive and died on 25-03-2020: The 54-year-old man, who tested positive on March 23 and was undergoing treatment at Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai, died[1]. At 2.02 a.m. on Wednesday, Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar took to Twitter to declare the death. “Despite our best efforts, the COVID-19 positive patient in Madurai Rajaji Hospital passed away a few minutes back. He had a medical history of prolonged illness with steroid-dependent Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, uncontrolled diabetes with hypertension,” he said. He also said COVID-19 with comorbidity like uncontrollable diabetes and hypertension and immunosuppression are high risk-conditions and asked people with such conditions to be “extra cautious.” During a press meet on Tuesday night, 24-03-2020, the Minister clarified that though the patient did not have a travel history to an affected country, they had traced his contact history and found that he had come in contact with some Thailand nationals, who were on tour in the State[2].  After death, the patient was mentioned as “the COVID-19 positive patient.”

Thailand Muslim preachers came to Tamil Nadu to propagate: According to media reports[3], Erode district administration has prohibited the public from using those streets and has warned of strict action against the shops which violate the Collector’s orders, perhaps from 24-03-2020. The streets which have been closed for the public are –

  1. New Masjid Street,
  2. Kongalamman Koil Street,
  3. East Kongalamman Koil Street,
  4. Sultanpet,
  5. West Kongalamman Koil Street,
  6. Kandasamy Street,
  7. Kandasamy Lane,
  8. Ottukara Chinnaiah Street and
  9. Hasan Street.

Erode Municipal Commissioner also told the Times of India that the nine streets will be fumigated and that no commercial establishments shall function in the nine streets until further orders[4]. A group of seven tourists from Thailand had reached Erode on March 12 and they had spent time in three mosques in the city. The media and the Govt. officials continue to mention them as “tourists” without revealing their identities. Later, one of them caught a fever and was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, where he later succumbed. His coronavirus tests had reportedly returned negative. Two other tourists from the same group were tested positive for COVID-19 recently and are being isolated and treated in IRT Medical college hospital, Perundurai, Erode district. A total of 136 people in Erode have been placed under home quarantine after the tourists tested positive and the district administration has also begun fixing identification stamps in front of the houses of those who have been quarantined. Tamil Nadu now has 12 cases of COVID-19, of which one patient was cured and discharged from the hospital. Of the 11 active cases, 10 patients had travelled to India from abroad and one patient has reported no travel history within India or abroad. As on Monday 23-03-2020, the government of Tamil Nadu has placed 12,519 people under home quarantine and has sent 552 samples for testing.

The suspected COVID-19 Thailand preachers admitted in Perundurai IRT Hospital [16-03-2020]: The district health department officials have admitted five Thailand citizens to the government hospital in Perundurai after one of their teammates was found with Covid 19 symptoms at the Coimbatore airport on Sunday. According to an officer, the six had come down to Erode from Thailand on Saturday 11-03-2020 to participate in some religious meetings. “One of them suddenly fell sick and decided to return to Thailand. He booked a flight from Coimbatore airport, where he arrived on Sunday. Airport officials subjected him to a medical check-up and confirmed that he was having Covid-19 symptoms. Subsequently, he was quarantined in Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), but tested negative for Covid-19 on Monday 23-03-2020 evening,” said Dr S Soundammal, deputy director, health services, Erode district[5]. Based on the information that he was accompanied by five others, the health department officials in Erode went to Perundurai, where they were staying, and admitted them to the government hospital. “They are put in a special ward. Doctors have collected their blood samples and they will be treated based on the reports,” Soundammal said[6]. Meanwhile, their teammate died of renal failure at CMCH on Tuesday 17-03-2020.

What happened from the first week of March to 17-03-2020: The two Thailand nationals, who have tested positive and currently quarantined at the IRT Hospital in Perundurai in Erode district, are part of a group of tourists who arrived in Tamil Nadu in the first week of March[7]. One person, who tested negative for COVID-19, passed away on March 17 at a hospital in Coimbatore and the group is understood to have visited several places in Erode[8]. With two Thailand nationals testing positive for COVID-19, 130 families in two areas in the city, where the two nationals had stayed earlier, have been home quarantined, and others are not being allowed to enter the streets on 23-03-2020, Monday. A group of seven nationals had arrived in the city and had stayed at a masjid in Sultanpet and the masjid near Kalaimadu Street for over a week and were involved in preaching[9]. One person developed a fever and was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and tested negative for COVID-19[10]. However, he died later due to complications of diabetic nephropathy and septicaemia. The other six nationals were admitted to the isolation ward at Government IRT Perundurai Medical College and Hospital on March 16[11]. Two tested positive while three tested negative while the test result of one nation is yet to be received from the King Institute of Preventive Medicine, Guindy[12].

The closure / sealing of two mosques infected / visited by the COVID-19 infected preachers: As the authorities and the media have been trying to suppress the identity of the people involved in the COVID-19 contamination, they have been limited in that aspect. However, when the question of disinfection activities comes, they have to close the mosques. This would become a serious issue. The Corporation has issued closure notices to the two masjids and has begun preventive measures in the two areas where the nationals had come in contact with people. Their cook, guide and a few others have been home quarantined. On Monday, nine streets in Sultanpet area and five streets in Kollampalayam areas were closed for public movement and the roads leading to the streets were blocked by policemen, as has already been mentioned above. Health officials carried out surveys in the areas to check people with fever or other symptoms, and residents were advised not to leave their homes. Corporation Commissioner M. Elangovan told The Hindu that disinfectants were sprayed in the streets and the wholesale provisional market and shops functioning in the area were also closed till further orders. He said that one health official was posted for each street to monitor the situation and people were asked to stay indoors. Deputy Director of Health Services S. Soundammal said that 10 persons who were in close contact with the Thailand nationals were quarantined while 130 families in two areas were home quarantined.

Church, prayer hall, prayer conducted at a house etc and the attack of such places: Secularism and communalism behind! (2)

Miscreants vandalise church in Madurai[1]: The reports have been evidently confused, biased and partial, as the “attackers” have been identified differently.  The “DT Next” published by the “Daily Thanthi” reported that “Miscreants vandalise church in Madurai”. One pastor appearing in U-tube directly accused that RSS attacked[2]. The Hindu reported, “The video of the group threatening one of the prayer homes was uploaded on Facebook by a person claiming to be a Hindu Munnani member.” According to another report, “A case was registered yesterday against 10 Hindu Munnani activists, of whom three have been identified.” In the name of secularism, the pastors what they talked and circulated through U-tube has been emphasizing about their right of worship etc. Interestingly, Vaiko supported Christians and opposed the “Hindu Munnani” cadre for attacking[3]. He also went on to accuse police that they have registered a case against the “unidentified” persons. In “Sub News” video, Iniko Irudhyaraj repeats the same story, but, another Christian accused BJP government at the centre and the “puppet rule” here at Tamilnadu want to carry out their “communal agenda” and thus, the attacks were carried on by the BJP[4]. Therefore, it is evident that the issue of “illegal churches” has been converted into “secular” and “communal” one.  India Today mentioned, “PTI SSN APR ROH SMN SMN” implying that this news is spread through different channels.

The Police assured that they would take legal action: One of the pastors assembled tried to incite Christians by talking in a different way[5]. He was vociferously suggesting that this video (in which was talking) should be circulated and all Church denominations should be united together to fight against the “communal forces.” The police have responded in the most responsible way, though, the Christians tried to create problem and that is revealed in this video[6]. The Police Inspector is seen informing the assembled Christians to be careful in using language against the Police. He asked the responsible persons to talk with him, so that he could respond. He informed that as they had already given a petition to the Collector and he in turn would instruct the police, definitely, they would take action legally. “As you are not enemies of the police, do not talk in such way,” he told pointing to some persons on his RHS.

Christians started playing safe and legally in the sense that they tried to exploit the judgments pronounced in the different contexts: From the above, it can be noted that the words and expressions, “Church”, “prayer hall”, “prayer conducted at a house” etc are mentioned differently, evidently, to suit the court judgments. In places like Kanayakumari, the Christians have their own problems, as different denominations object to each other for the construction of prayers halls, churches and other propaganda activities. If they are really faithful to their religion and worshiping their gods, then, there could not have been such rivalry, but, as they get foreign funds and they have to spend for the building of churches, such competition has been turning into enmity. The court judgments amply expose such internal rivalry. In other words, the Church known pretty well about the legal position and they have started playing safe and legally in the sense that they tried to exploit the judgments pronounced in the different contexts. The illegally built or performed “places of worship” issue is turned into different issue. Thus the so-called, “the attack of such places” is decided to be exploited by them under the bogies of “Secularism and communalism”.

Politicization of the issue suppressing the facts: Akshaya Nath of “India Today”, as usual gives the Christian version, but, failed to vertify the facts from other side[7]. His narrative goes in this way[8], “The incidents have got a lot of attention now, with many politicians paying a visit to the affected people. MDMK leader Vaiko, who was one of the first politicians to reach the site, said, “Everyone should live in harmony, some hooligans in the name of Hindu outfits have started this violence. These goons should be put behind the bars.” TTV Dinakaran, who had visited the location and met the affected pastors and devotees in Madurai after his announcing his party, said, “This is a barbaric act, people of Tamil Nadu will not accept communal or religious riots against the public. Here all are united. India is not a Hindu, Muslim or Christian country. Here all are living together whether it is majority or minority, we are all living like brothers and sisters. Especially, in Tamil Nadu because of great leader like Periyar, because of the Dravidian movement, because of the social reform, people will never look into their community or religion. People will never accept these things and those who did this will never succeed in Tamil Nadu.” In five days if the prayer homes were not shut the pastors will be killed was the warning given by the alleged Hindu groups, “This is a very isolated place, it is kind of scary. I am not able to leave my wife and children alone here,” said Jerome. “Everyone comes and meets us, many come and click pictures with us and go, now after all this there is no one to protect us, no politician, no police, none except for god,” said Priya. As these believers continue their lives in the hope that God will protect them, the fear of an attack by haters is given them sleepless nights”. Thus, he does not care for illegal constructions and related issues.

The State minority commissioner Bishop M Prakash met the pastors at Prayer Tower (16-03-2018): Under these circumstances, state minority commissioner Bishop M Prakash met the pastors at Prayer Tower, a church at Bypass Road and interacted with them[9]. Talking to reporters later, the commissioner said that their main role was to protect the rights of minorities and they had received numerous petitions from Madurai after the attack on prayer halls. That was the reason why he had come down to hear their grievances. They also received petitions from other minorities. Based on his findings, he would suggest to the government to take action on the petitions, he said.

Representatives of independent Christian churches have accompanied the commissioner when he met Madurai collector K Veera Raghava Rao and they urged the collector to take action against the functionaries who vandalised prayer halls[10]. The minority commissioner later also met Madurai city police commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal and discussed the matter. Meanwhile, Koodalputhur police in Madurai city limits have filed three cases pertaining to vandalisation of prayer halls. Based on complaints filed by I Immanuvel from Anbu Nagar, S Stanilaus and M Jegatheesan from Anaiyur, police have registered case against 50 unknown persons. The members of churches accompanying minority commissioner said they will stage mass demonstration if the miscreants were not arrested. A demonstration has also been planned by various organizations in Madurai city in this regard.

Hindu Munnai cadres arrested (19-03-2018 and 20-03-2018): Madurai City police on Tuesday, 20-03-2018 made the third arrest in connection with disruption of Sunday prayers at three prayer halls in Anaiyur and Koodal Pudur on March 11, 2018[11]. The arrested person was identified as K. Thanga Venkatesh (41) of Vilangudi[12]. He is the district secretary of Hindu Munnani. The city police have already arrested two other Hindu Munnani cadre, V. Aravindhan (21) of Thathaneri and D. Senthil Kumar (38) of Konnavayan Salai, in this connection[13]. Thus, the police has started arresting HM cadres, but, nothing is discussed about illegal prayers halls etc[14]. Ironically, the HM cadre has also not been expressive enough to present facts in its approach so far.

Church, prayer hall, prayer conducted at a house etc and the attack of such places: Secularism and communalism behind! (1)

Madurai church attack - Miscreants vandalize church

Pentecostal Church attacked in Madurai 11-03-2018: The incident happened around 9.30 am when priest Ravi Jacob was taking part in a prayer session. “A gang of 50 men led by a religious outfit leader”, protected by a gunman, entered the church and started attacking M. Ravi Jacob[1]. A prayer home of a Pentecostal church in Sikkandar Chavadi here was vandalized and copies of the Bible were burnt, allegedly by members of a “Hindu right wing group”on Sunday 11-03-2018[2]. Another report says, “Some members, reportedly of the same group”, later went to three other prayer homes belonging to Pentecostal church in nearby areas and verbally abused the pastors and worshippers and threatened to attack the homes if they were not shut in a week[3]. Jacob, the pastor at the Sikkandar Chavadi prayer home, which is a branch of Rhema Church, said more than 10 people, including a person who had an armed policeman as his Personal Security Officer (PSO), came to the prayer home in the morning[4]. “I, my wife, two children and a few others who had come for the prayer were there. The men used abusive language and roughed up me and my wife,” he said. He alleged that they later took out copies of the Bible present at the home, along with his mobile phone and a few other belongings, and burnt them in the street[5].

Christians accused “Hindu Munnani” for attack: Corroborating his allegations, the family who owned the place, which is a small tile-roofed structure in a narrow lane, said the pastor had rented the place a couple of months ago and visited it on Sundays for prayer meetings. Jerome Jegatheesan, pastor of ‘Bethesda Varthaiyin Jeba Veedu’ prayer home in Koodal Pudur, said a group of people visited the home a couple of hours after the incident at Sikkandar Chavadi. “They abused us in filthy language and asked us to stop our activities,” he said. Sasi Sugathiya, a pastor with Living God Church, said two other prayer homes in Koodal Puthur area were also threatened on Sunday. The video of the group threatening one of the prayer homes was uploaded on Facebook by a person claiming to be a Hindu Munnani member. However, there is Christian  material and burning them, but, there was no commotion, as everything was going on the road and the event was evidently recorded ny many [6]. It is appears strange, as the attacker himself to present evidence to the public to prove that he attacked or involved in such act. This is similar to earlier NDTV propaganda about the Gujarat riots where, the Hindutwa group heads were depicted as “claiming themselves with pride that they indulged in such violence.”

Police version of the attack: N. Manivannan, Madurai Superintendent of Police, said a case had been registered based on Ravi Jacob’s complaint against 10 unidentified Hindu Munnani cadre. He, said, “We have identified three persons involved in the incident. However, we are yet to arrest any of them.” On the presence of a PSO, he said the police were yet to confirm that. “If a PSO was present, it will make the identification of the accused easy,” he added. Stressing that there were no attacks on the other three prayer homes, Madurai City Commissioner of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal said the group appeared to have threatened the pastors to close the homes by claiming that they did not have permission. “We have registered cases and appropriate action will be taken swiftly,” he said.  However, it can be noted that politicians like Vaiko accused police that they have registered a case against the “unidentified” persons. Therefore, it is evident that the issue of “illegal churches” has been converted into “secular” and “communal” one.

Madurai church attack - Notices to illegal prayer halls- TOI

30 prayer halls in Tamil Nadu receive notice, HC stays closure of one (October 2017)[7]: District authorities have issued show-cause notice to about 30 Christian prayer halls in Coimbatore district alone, threatening to close them down for conducting prayers without prior permission. But, the Madras high court came to the rescue of one such hall, when it stayed a notice issued by a jurisdictional tahsildar to a Sulur-based prayer hall. Concurring with the submissions of P Wilson, senior counsel for the prayer hall, Justice K Ravichandrabaabu said: “The court is of the prima facie view that the petitioner is entitled to an interim relief of stay for a period of four weeks subject to the condition that under the guise of conducting prayers the petitioner shall not cause any nuisance by way to the public.” The judge then ordered notice to the tahsildar concerned and district collector returnable by four weeks. Though Selvasingh Samuel, 37, who is pastor of a prayer hall at Sultanpet in Sulur taluk in Coimbatore district, won the relief for his prayer hall, the pattern as per which the notices were slapped on similar prayer halls in the region is unmistakable. Some of the notices were identical and referred to complaints and apprehension of public order disturbances in the regions concerned. They also raised the bogey of prayer being conducted without prior permission from authorities[8].

Permission given for the construction of a residential house and not for any jamath/prayer hall/madrasa (November 2017): The activists said the complaint was a ploy so that some organisations could continue their “illegal conversions”. Police said they had received complaints from the public that some prayer homes were being running illegally and demanding that these be closed[9]. Incidentally, the Courts have delivered judgments in recent years about the construction of prayer halls, usage of house for conducting prayer etc. In one case, the judge said it has been categorically stated in the stop-work notice that the planning permission was obtained for the construction of a residential house and not for any jamath/prayer hall/madrasa[10]. When there was a specific plan accorded for construction of a residential house, the petitioners cannot deviate and hence the panchayat was right in issuing the stop-work notice and thereafter passing the impugned order of cancellation of planning approval. Proceeding with construction and claiming investment of huge amount on the same cannot be a ground to permit the construction of superstructure to stand there, the judge added[11]. Therefore, if anyone follows the secular rationale of the cases, it has to be applicable to all. However, the secular and Dravidian politicians have taken different stand of accusing the right wing group for the attack.

Complaints from the public that some prayer homes were being running illegally and demanding that these be closed (March 2018): Police said they had received complaints from the public that some prayer homes were being running illegally and demanding that these be closed[12]. This was not a law and order problem, but denial of right to worship and destruction of secularism, the Constitution and democracy, Council president Anthony Pappusamy said in a statement[13]. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Latin Bishops’ Council had condemned the attacks and said it was an effort to “chase away” Christians who had a fundamental right to worship. This was not a law and order problem, but denial of right to worship and destruction of secularism, the Constitution and democracy, Council president Anthony Pappusamy said in a statement[14]. A clip of the group reportedly threatening the persons has gone viral. A case was registered yesterday against 10 Hindu Munnani activists, of whom three have been identified. They said some of the activists, during initial questioning, denied that they had attacked the homes and had only staged protests against persons being allegedly lured for conversion. The activists said the complaint was a ploy so that some organisations could continue their “illegal conversions”. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Latin Bishops Council had condemned the attacks and said it was an effort to “chase away” Christians who had a fundamental right to worship.
